"I'd already gotten my test results of radon gas being at 7.8 in my house, so Affordable Environmental Services was one of the companies I called about getting an estimate. The owner came out that afternoon and was on time, was very courteous and professional. I was immediately impressed with the time he spent to examine everything carefully, taking notes. I had a lot of questions and he answered all of them--he was very knowledgeable. He sketched out how he would design the system, which I liked. Within a few hours of his visit, he emailed me a proposal and called to see if I had any questions. His price was in line with the other estimates I got and I decided to go with AES because I could tell by how thoroughly he examined and explained everything that he'd do a good job, and he did. He showed up on time and worked very hard installing the system. He did an outstanding job, cleaned everything up thoroughly and I couldn't have asked for more. The system brought the radon level down to 1.1 which is lower than we thought. I recommend this company highly for their promptness, professionalism and good work."

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

The cost to replace a radon fan ranges from $300 to $600 for the fan itself, with installation adding an additional $200 to $500. Overall, the total cost for replacement can range from $500 to $1,100, depending on factors such as the fan model, home size, and local labor rates. If the fan is part of a larger radon mitigation system, the price may be higher.

Radon is a cancer-causing radioactive gas that poses serious health risks, infiltrating homes through foundation cracks and unnoticed spaces.

You can vent radon out of your house sometimes by simply opening a window, but it won’t remove the source, and will likely rise above recommended levels quickly. A professional will be needed to assess your home, and determine the best strategy for radon removal. Active radon sump pumps and soil depressurization systems are often used to forcefully vent the radon from your home.

Your radon fan needs to operate 24/7 to be effective. The only time the fan isn't operating is during its replacement. Radon levels in the home can increase within hours if the fan stops working or something obstructs the stack vent. Fortunately, radon systems require no downtime maintenance between fan changes.

The average radon mitigation system uses about 876 kWh of electricity per year, although the exact amount of electricity used will vary depending on the size of the radon fan. Once the system is installed, the annual increase to your energy bill could range from $30 to $300 per year, again depending on the size of the fan.
