You will need to cut or break a boomstick so it is wider than the door and long enough to anchor outside the door frame. Extend the broomstick horizontally under the doorknob, ensuring it's snug. Now using long screws and a drill, anchor the broomstick to the wall outside the door frame. Remember that you won't be able to open the door afterward. Do not proceed with this hack if your home has no alternative exit.

You can convert a pre-hung door into a Dutch door, but it’s more of a pain. Pre-hung doors are already set in the frame with the hinges and everything aligned, so once you cut the slab in half, you’ll likely need to adjust the hinge placement and maybe even mess with the frame itself. It’s doable, but expect some trial and error because it’s not a straight-swap situation.

This points to a climate difference between the inside of your home and the outdoors. While common during peak cold days, frequent icing inside your storm door points to excess moisture being trapped between your entry door and storm door. In most cases, this can be fixed by updating worn weatherstripping or addressing gaps that are allowing warm, humid air from your home to get into the space between the doors.

Keeping the door tracks clear of any loose material and making sure rollers are clean and well lubricated can help keep your door opening and closing smoothly. Clean out the tracks and rollers and use a silicone-based lubricant once a month to ensure your door is working properly.
