"DK Tree Service did an excellent job trimming my big maple tree. These guys are top notch professionals. They know trees, and they care about their clients. They even cleared out the gutters after trimming the branches for no extra cost. Gave a good price, did a great job, cleaned up, nothing but awesome! I highly recommend DK and I will be using them again."

Small jobs welcome

"After calling several tree removal/stump grinding businesses--one of them 3x, but they never returned any of my calls--Joseph, Elite Stump Grinding, called me. In this case, I guess, the 4th time was the charm. I explained the situation with an approximately 8.5" tree stump that needed to be removed. Based on my description, there were 2 options: 1) he could come and inspect the situation and then quote a price; or 2) he could give me a quote over the phone. There was no point in having him come 2x, so Joseph gave us a quote over the phone. The day we scheduled was the hottest day, with the humidex factor reaching 107 F. I was worried and called Joseph to note that I would be ok with changing to a different, cooler day. He assured me that he would be OK. In addition, I discovered that when I was removing dirt from around the stump, the root area was much more substantial than I had realized. As a result when he saw the situation, Joseph noted that it would take a little longer than he had expected. However, he did not advise us that he would have to charge more as a result of the additional work. He set up a protective barrier around the stump area, and got straight to work. Afterwards, he cleaned up and raked to provide a flat, even area. My husband and I are both very impressed with Joseph's superb work ethic, professionalism, and friendliness, and thankful that he went the extra mile. In fact, we gave him more than the quote to indicate our appreciation of these qualities, as well as the quality of the work he did. In addition, I am promoting Elite Stump Grinding LLC on my social media. Everyone should know about Joseph's integrity and impeccable work ethic. Thanks, Joseph!"

Customers say: Quick response

"Trees fell on my wooden fence. While talking to the owner Brenda, I asked if they could fix the fence also, which they did. As we talked, I realized they could do pretty much everything. We are getting ready to list our home and needed many things done (big and small). They saved me so much money because I would have had to hire different individuals to clean the chimney, fix fence, paint, etc. Everything they did was to perfection. Brenda cleaned my 28 year old deck and if you had a fork...you could have eaten off of it. It looked bran new. They patched a hole in my garage, built small steps out back door, power washed the house, cleaned out and fix gutters, filled in some cracks in porch and even tightened my shutters, and put new hinges on fence door. Not to mention the 3 huge trees they cut down and made woodchips of for us. Very reasonable and honest. She is there with the guys and they worked non stop. I cannot say enough about this company. This company was by far the best fix it company I have EVER hired."

"I highly recommend Ortiz, they removed 3 large trees from my backyard and trimmed another tree. They had to work around a chain link fence, a pool and other trees, and did it flawlessly. They brought a crew of 8-10 people and they worked nonstop and did an extraordinary of cleaning up afterwards. The price was good also. Thank you Ortiz"

"John and crew do excellent work at a reasonable price. I had a large project involving 30+ trees and was super-impressed with their efficiency and quality of service. The most amazing thing to me was that John ALWAYS answers his phone. This alone is a rarity in this day and age. My hat goes off to this company. I highly recommend them for any tree work that you might be considering."

"Molina'a Tree Service did a thorough job with great cleanup afterwards. They were well equipped and skilled to do everything I needed, from taking down a big oak tree without touching a nearby shed to trimming healthy trees where their branches came too close to the house. They were responsive, courteous and quick. Well done."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

A tree can split because of high winds, a change in temperature, or from an infestation or tree disease. All of these factors can overlap, making a single cause difficult to pinpoint. While winter storms are some of the most common causes for a tree to split, it can also happen because of termites or rot.

You’ll have to balance up the cost, the value of the tree (sentimental or otherwise), and the risk factors. An experienced arborist will help you understand whether transplanting is likely to be successful. The cost and hassle of transplanting a large, well-established tree are often not worth it, especially if the species is fast-growing and easy to source. The decision depends on the age and species of the tree, the conditions in the new site location, and how careful the company is when digging out and moving the tree.

Yes, you can prune a palm tree with a chainsaw, but a chainsaw is overkill for a job like this. You risk damaging the tree if you make a bad cut. More commonly, you’ll need pruning shears or a serrated knife to trim a palm tree, or you can use a specialized pruning saw instead of a chainsaw.

There are several methods to hollow out a tree stump, and the best one depends on your tools, experience, and priorities. Common methods include using a chisel and hammer, a chainsaw, or burning.

  • Chisel and Hammer: This is often considered the easiest approach for those with limited tools or experience, though it is the most time-consuming.

  • Chainsaw: Using a chainsaw is the fastest method, but it comes with significant safety risks, especially for inexperienced users.

  • Burning: This can be an effective method, but it is not recommended unless you can first drill holes into the stump. Without holes, the stump will be difficult to light and may not burn completely through.

A power drill with at least a ⅜-inch diameter bit can make the job quicker and easier, regardless of the primary method. While you can use a chisel or chainsaw without a drill, it will require more time and effort. Always wear protective goggles and thick gloves, as splinters are an inevitable risk.

If executed correctly your tree should survive after being transplanted to a new spot. However, effective transplanting requires six months, careful root pruning, safe transport to the new location, and replanting in prime soil conditions. You’ll also need an appropriately sized root ball for a complete tree transplant. A good rule of thumb is that, for every inch in diameter, your tree’s root ball needs to be around 11 inches. So a tree with a diameter of six inches needs a root ball of approximately 66 inches.
