"Alfred was wonderful! He repaired the sliding doors in my bedroom closet that 2 other handymen were not able to do. He also hauled a heavy piece of furniture downstairs for me and removed and replaced rubber step mats on my 5 garage stairs. Noted that I had bought the wrong materials for adhesive:) He knew what was best. Don't waste your time or money, hire Cranston to do the job efficiently, I'm so thankful I did! Thank you Cranston and Alfred!"

"Professional Clyde and Brandon were very professional and was able to remove my old carpet and replace it with vinyl flooring in my office. They also cleaned up behind themselves and I didn't have to worry about anything except a beautiful new floor. They were fast and cost effective. My office floor looks so beautiful and im going back to them to help with more floors in my home"

"When he was done, the houses were beautiful! They never looked that good in the 15 years I've owned the properties. Of all the contractors I've worked with Billy was the best. He was professional, gave good advance to make my homes more attractive and an all around super nice guy. The quality of his work was exceptional at very reasonable prices. I'm so thankful I met Billy on Angie's List and highly recommend him."

"Driveway looks good but cleanup was not done. I had to do the cleanup myself after calling to complain. Was told if I did the cleanup I would be refunded some money for my work but have not heard from the contractor for a week now to confirm my refund."

"Two structural walls removed, full gut of kitchen, new custom built cabinets, new hardwood floors throughout, fireplace update, paint entire first floor, install all new appliances, lighting. Vaskos committed to a project timeline of 6 weeks from start to finish and delivered in 5. Their onsite team, Barry and Vic, are super professional, I cant say enough about their commitment to quality and dedication to doing the job right. There were hiccups during the project that could of delayed it but they always figured out a solution and kept things moving. The office support team, Britne and Patty, did a great job making sure project supplies were onsite when needed ensuring the project timeline was on schedule. We bid this project out with other general contractors who came in significantly higher and who used all sub-contractors. Vaskos was more affordable than those other contractors and did much of the work with their own staff reduce to reduce the need for subs and control the quality. My wife and I highly recommend Vaskos Quality Builders for your home project."

Garages questions, answered by experts

The life span of a newly painted garage door depends on the quality of your paint, the material of the door, and the climate you live in. If you’re confident that you’ll maintain the door as best you can, you can expect the job to last between 5 and 10 years.

Most heat in a garage is lost through air leaks in windows, doors, and walls. This is especially true if the walls are uninsulated, which is common in garages. Consider insulating your garage before installing a garage heater to ensure the heat it generates isn’t wasted, making it less efficient.

A garage counts toward the official square footage of a house if it is considered livable space. For a garage to qualify, it typically needs to be attached to the home and have permanent finishings like proper insulation, finished walls, and ceilings. It must also be livable year-round, which requires adequate heating, cooling, and ventilation. The exact legal requirements for what constitutes living space can vary by location.

With the exception of small, lightweight torsion-spring garage doors, which can operate with one spring, most garage doors require two springs to work properly. Garage doors with extension springs always require two springs—if one extension spring is broken or otherwise failing, the garage door may open unevenly and could pose a hazard if the remaining spring fails.

The best method for painting a garage door depends on the door's design and the finish you want to achieve. For the most professional-looking finish, especially on doors with panels or intricate details, a paint sprayer is an excellent choice. It can easily get into hard-to-reach places and provide a smooth, even coat.

If you don't have a sprayer, or if your door is flat, a combination of a roller and a brush is the most effective approach. Use a roller for the large, flat sections to cover the area quickly and efficiently. For the best results, experts recommend a roller with a nap between ⅜ and ¾ inches thick; natural fibers can also help ensure an even coat.

A brush is essential for handling the finer details. Use it to paint grooves, angles, small panels, and the edges of the door where you need more control.

Regardless of the tools you use, it's a good idea to step back after the main application to review your work and use a detail brush to touch up any missed spots.
