"Remove Trees He had me take pictures on Sunday afternoon. Then he called me and came over to see the situation. He quoted me a price for what I ask and then explained to me about the other tree, which was a foot away. His explanation made sense and only his knowledge of what he does made me take care of something that I would be facing again shortly. He came the next morning and the job was completed in a few hours. He did a FANASTIC JOB AND CLEANED EVERYTHING UP and even did extra things for me. THEY ARE GREAT..........."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

No, homeowners insurance typically does not cover the cost of removing a dead, sick, or rotting tree that is still standing. Insurance is designed to protect against sudden and unexpected accidents, whereas a tree dying or rotting over time is considered a maintenance issue. Coverage usually only applies after a tree has fallen and caused damage to your property.

If you’re looking to rot a tree stump fast, potassium nitrate will work far quicker than copper nails. First, drill several holes into the stump using a power drill, then pour potassium nitrate pellets into the holes. Next, add water to help the chemical absorb into the wood, thoroughly soaking the stump to ensure the pellets dissolve and spread evenly. Afterward, cover the stump with a tarp to retain moisture and block sunlight, then place mulch on top to secure it in place.

Generally speaking, you’ll want to avoid flush cuts, which are cuts made as extremely close to the trunk or main branch. These cuts can weaken your tree, lower its natural defense mechanisms, and even cause decay. You’ll also want to avoid tree topping, which is the total removal of the leader and upper main branches of a tree.

Most pros will advise against either of these methods, which is why hiring a pro is often the best choice when it comes to tree trimming.

You can find pruning paints and sealants for trees, but you shouldn’t use them on a topped tree. Coatings like these often inhibit the tree’s healing process. An important exception is if there are dangerous fungi nearby that the tree is particularly vulnerable to, like oaks and oak wilt. Sealing cuts can help prevent fungi from taking root.

In nature, there are many things that can cause a tree to die, including diseases, insects, and natural disasters such as fires or droughts. Non-natural methods of killing a tree include herbicides or manual intervention, such as cutting it down. Consult a tree removal professional about your options for naturally killing a tree.
