"Griffin Electric was great, they were timely, knowledgeable, and friendly. The fans all were installed and ready to go and they even hauled off the old ones. I was so grateful for their help and will definitely be hiring them in the future for other work I’ll be needing completed. 10/10 I would recommend them to anyone."

"Great troubleshooting. Joseph found the real issue was with my light switch so the light fixture did not need replacing. He also replaced the bathroom exhaust fan, which included a trip to Lowes and going into the attic. Joseph is very efficient and professional and repaired everything I needed. Prices are very reasonable. I will call him again for future electrical needs."

"Our ceiling fan ceased working. Unfortunately, the electrician was not able to actually fix our problem, but he determined that the motor on our ceiling fan (which we had installed a few months ago) was defective so that we could return it and exchange it for a new one. While he was here, he installed a surge protector on our main breaker box. If we have other electrical problems in the future, I will definitely call Royal electric."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

A typical fan installation takes between two and six hours. The exact timeframe can be influenced by factors such as the home's structure, existing electrical characteristics, ease of attic access, and whether complex wiring or additional attic ventilation work is required.

No, a ceiling fan doesn’t have to be wired to a switch, but it’s often more convenient. You can use the included pull chain if your ceiling isn’t too high or install a remote module later, as they are a cheap, easy-to-install option that’ll let you control both the fan and light fixture.

Essential tools for ceiling fan installation include a ladder, screwdriver, pliers, wire strippers, and a circuit tester. If the ceiling is angled or features unique configurations, ensure the availability of a compatible mounting bracket.

If you’re removing a ceiling fan without visible screws, start by locating the fan canopy—a round cover placed above the fan blades and motor. There should be a thin ring that can be turned counterclockwise to remove the canopy and reveal the screws. After unscrewing the fan, you can disconnect the wires and remove the entire fan from the mounting hardware. For safety, make sure the fan switch is turned off before you remove the canopy. It may be easier to remove the fan blades first, too.

If your home already has wires for a ceiling fan (and optional light kit), then it’s quite safe to wire and install it yourself. Always be very careful to shut off the power before you begin, and confirm that the power is safely off with a non-contact voltage tester before touching anything. It’s also highly recommended to use eye protection, rubberized gloves, and tools with rubber handles to keep yourself safe from electric shock.
