"I was very pleased with the work performed. He was always on time and professional. My bathroom looks amazing! He painted a couple of bedrooms and they look flawless! I’ve hired him a few times for various jobs and I couldn’t have asked for better. He was very knowledgeable about the work he performed and helpful with suggestions. I would definitely recommend to others and would hire again. Pricing was very fair and honest. Highly recommend!"

"On April 29 I signed a contract to have a closet system installed in two bedrooms of my home. It took 3 separate installation visits in order to complete the job. Prior to having the installers come I had my existing system removed, the drywall repaired and painted each closet. Two weeks prior to the install I had repairs made to my wood floors. On the scheduled installation date of June 16 two installers were sent that spoke little English. Part way through the installation I was called by my designer and informed that additional molding was needed (double base molding) because my floors were uneven for an additional $380. The double base was installed improperly, no miter of corners, just loped off at a 45 degree angle with a large visible gap at each corner. During the course of the installation the installers dropped tools on the floor, knocked into my walls and doors with pieces of wood and made multiple requests for water and ice which were hard to understand initially due to the language barrier. At the end of this installation I was informed that they did not have all of the pieces required to complete the installation. I felt very uncomfortable with the lead installer that kept demanding that I sign off on the job and provide the final payment on the job which was incorrect as one part brought did not fit and pieces of what I ordered were missing. As soon as they left I took a close look at the work and noticed that I had multiple holes in the walls where they attempted to find studs, one of the drawers kept opening on its own, there were multiple dings in the walls and doors where they had hit it with wood, multiple dings in my newly repaired floors and that $10 in quarters was missing from a drawer in a bedroom where they had been working. I immediately called my designer and then sent an email and follow up pictures. I was told the following day by my designer that Closets management would take $10 off of my bill and that they would repair my floors. I then called the installation manager as I did not feel that taking $10 off of my bill was sufficient compensation for all of the repair work required. It took her a day to get back to me and after asking her if she would have felt adequately compensated with what was being offered she arranged to have $200 taken off of my $5k bill. As you wait on hold to get in contact with Closets you get to listen to repeated messages about their trained and certified installers.
In any case a second team was sent to my house on the 23rd to install the rest of the system and replace the improperly installed molding. Upon arriving at the house they opened up the package with the missing parts and discovered it was damaged and could not be installed. They replaced the previously installed molding and left. I called my designer again and reported this issue. She assured me that the installation manager would get right on correcting the situation. Two days later I called the installation manager and was told that the broken piece had been reordered and was expected the following week and a third installation date was set up.
On July 2 a third installation crew came to my home and installed the last piece. The crew lead said he would patch the holes left by the first crew but that they had to keep drilling into the walls in order to find the studs. I asked him why they did not use a Stud Finder and got no comment. In any case, despite having clean and professional looking trucks, the crews themselves do not present a professional appearance, do not seem highly skilled in the product, and little concern is taken with issues reported as rather than calling me to apologize it was left up to me to report and find out the resolution of any issue. There does not appear to be any coordination that what was ordered was installed properly and that the customer was satisfied.

"Excellent. I will definitely hire them again. They were punctual and found two more holes that needed to be replaced. They moved furniture out of the room, did the repair and cleaned up when they were done."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

There are approximately 5.33 board feet in a 2x4. You can use the board foot calculator in this article to easily find the answer. A 2x4 is 2 inches of thickness by 4 inches of width, so you need to find the length, with 8 feet being the most common. You’d use the calculator here to multiply 2 times 4 times 8, and then divide by 12, arriving at a total of 5.33 board feet.

Yes, professional installations include reinforced corner posts to ensure durability.

It’s sometimes safe to replace a load-bearing wall with a beam, but you need a structural engineer to sign off on the project. You’ll also likely have to upgrade to a steel I-beam or another material that’s stronger than wood to maintain the level of support you need without the wall underneath.

The easiest way to tell if a wall is load bearing is to check if it’s an exterior wall or if it runs perpendicular to the joists above and below it (or parallel to beams). Exterior walls are almost always load-bearing, and walls that run under beams or parallel to them are also usually load-bearing. There are exceptions to these rules, and walls that don’t fit into these categories can still be load-bearing. If you’re unsure, hire a structural engineer to look at your home to assess whether or not the wall is structural.

Stick frames, metal frames, or prefabricated concrete frames are included in framing a house, along with creating the framework and space for windows, doors, and entryways. Other aspects of developing a home—like drywall, insulation, windows, doors, and more—are not included in the cost to frame a house.
