"David and crew were fantastic! They were very thorough, organized, reliable and professional. What we appreciated most was that David was a perfectionist, thought of everything and took care of little details that we didn’t even ask about. David, you are truly a joy to work with and an exceptionally skilled carpenter. We will use you for all of our future home renovations! Allison"

"I found Al through Nextdoor.com. He called back quickly to make an appointment for a measure and quote. He was ontime, made a model of what was to be done on his computer and printed a picture to show me what he was planning to do. He is very thorough with details. If you need a professional skilled carpenter please give Al a call. You wonâ  t regret it."

"We found Bergen's contracting and repair to be reliable, and the work we had done: new back door and frame removed and replaced, new roof, 3 rooms painted with two ceilings painted along with rugs removed and replaced with wood flooring as well as vinyl repair was extremely professionally done. pro"

"Charlie is friendly, easy to talk to, professional, meticulous, and methodical. He rescued our deck from the mess it was originally. He made the best of a VERY poorly executed initial build (we FIRED original guy and crews)! Would love to see what he could do as a new build."

"Richard was prompt, and professional. I had Richard add a laundry chute and dogie door. He made recommendations I hadn't thought of, and was willing to go get replacement parts when the parts I bought wouldn't fit. Very personable. The only issue was the paint on the laundry chute needed another coat, and the length of time to do the job. But I would definitely use him again."

"By all means. These men are craftsmen. Their attention to detail was meticulous. There were additional, structural problems the team identified and repaired. The carpentry and finishing were precise. The quality of materials was high. The personnel working on the project showed professional attention to the structure and their work. The manager Fabrizio warrants special praise. The finished project went far beyond our expectations."

"Went well. Scott and his crew showed up as scheduled, did quality work, were friendly and communicated well and kept me informed of progress, cleaned up work site every day before leaving, and repositioned a French drain line as needed that was an unexpected “surprise.” I would highly recommend Carolina Contracting for a similar project."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

The average cost of DIY window framing is about $40 to $60 in materials. If you hire a window treatment professional, you’ll pay for materials plus labor costs—anywhere from $250 to $800 per window. The final cost is highly dependent on the window size, as larger windows are heavier and more difficult to install, as well as the type of window framing material.

There are both temporary and permanent ways to enclose a carport. If you’re looking to enclose your carport for the winter, a canvas enclosure could do the trick. It won’t be as protective as a permanent structure, but it can offer some protection from elements like snow, rain, and wind. For a permanent enclosure, you can add extra walls, add a new vertical roof, or a lean-to addition on one side of the structure.

For maximum stability, install grab bars on wall studs, as this will adequately support the weight. However, if you don't have access to studs, you can get by with wall anchors. If opting for the latter, choose specialty hollow wall anchors.

You can choose 5/8-inch plywood or 3/4-inch plywood—anything thinner than these sizes may not withstand the impact of debris propelled by strong winds or can be easily torn off by intruders. Remember that the durability of the wood board is crucial, particularly for safeguarding your windows during severe storms. The effectiveness of using wood boards for protecting the investment you made in your home relies on using the appropriate material and ensuring proper installation.

Yes, a 2x6 should hold a porch swing and safely support the load. A smaller joist runs the risk of it not offering enough support for the swing. If you have a joist smaller than 2x6, add additional bolstering support.
