"Al was fantastic! He clearly explained that my fireplace was shutting off as a safety feature due to low oxygen levels. He also reassembled the logs in the firebox and showed me the proper way to start and stop the fireplace. Highly recommend his service!"

Small jobs welcome

I own and operate a family business. What you see and who you meet and hire is who will be doing the work. I work myself with my son and my wife and 1 loyal guy I've had since day 1. I've been in this line of work for 25 years doing projects of every type specializing in cabinets, trim and higher end work, meticulate jobs and also exterior work. I do all types of finish carpentry, trim d, doors , wi dows , wall repairs and many other tasks. I am considered the very top of the line among all the painting community in the area. Very professional, accommodating and extremely neat and clean. Countless referrals and pics. I've been busy the past few years without advertising or taking g on new work just from repeat customers, regular yearly scheduled work, word of mouth and the couple builders I work for but lately the travel is getting too much for me as the builders are starting to get farther away so im currently taking on new work\n.

"I called and inquired about the price and they said the first flue was 200 and the second would be 150 or so. I made an apointment and they arrived very promptly. First guy came to the door, greeted me without a smile and introduced himself. I invited him in. Second guy comes in, hood over his head, no introductions. He pulled the cleaning polls in and accidentally brushed up against the door but apologized as he moved forward. Didn't look like a mark was left so it's fine. I pointed out the fireplaces and I didn't need to say too much beyond that. Both guys weren't much for conversation and just headed in to work. I did offer to show him the cleanout underneath but he evidently didn't need to see that as it didn't seem to be something they did. Fine. Maybe they don't go that far. I try not to hover over anyone brought into the house for work so I busied myself elsewhere while the two guys tackled the 2 flues from the hearths. 45 minutes passed and they were out. The last conversation was the first guy telling me that the chimneys didn't need that much cleaning and they seemed barely used and well cared for. Nevertheless I was glad they had gotten cleaned. I didn't check their work before they left but I wish I had. The fireplace on the second floor had the same debris behind the damper as it had before they came. In fact I actually told him that I'd seen debris and leaves behind the damper before they came and I saw the same leaves there after they left. There was also some webs left behind on the wood holder. Shouldn't they be gone? The second floor fireplace didn't seem very thorough. I didn't investigate the flue further. I tried to see if they were still outside and but they had left. Despite the expediency and the apparent light work, the price didn't reflect any sort of break. I don't know.. Maybe it should?! 348.00 dollars seems like a lot of money for such a short amount of time and for what he admitted wasn't a heavy cleaning. They could have also inspected the chimney outside or something else for the money but they seemed to be rushing? This company missed an opportunity to have a great review. Just a few things could have turned it around.

Fireplace Cleaners questions, answered by experts

You may be wondering: can you paint cement? Fortunately, the answer is yes.

To change the color of your cinder blocks, you have two options. You can either paint them or stain them. Either way, you'll be able to choose from a wide range of color options. Some popular colors for cinder block painting include off-white shades and gray tones, which add a modern spin to the traditional gray blocks.

You can turn a red brick white through a process called whitewashing. Whitewash isn’t a stain but rather is made from water and white latex paint. Adding more water to the mix will make the solution look lighter when applied, and adding more paint will make it look more white.

To stain brick, you should use a product specifically formulated for brick, concrete, or other masonry surfaces. These stains are designed to penetrate the porous surface of the brick and bond with it. This is different from paint, which sits on the surface and is prone to peeling, flaking, and trapping moisture that can cause damage. Water-based brick stains are often recommended because they are easy to apply, even for DIYers, and they allow the brick to breathe. Avoid using regular paint on brick, as it will not adhere properly and can lead to future maintenance problems.

The main difference between limewash and German schmear is their core ingredient. Limewash is made from crushed limestone, while German schmear uses a mortar base. This affects their application, appearance, and longevity. German schmear involves applying a thin layer of mortar to brick or stone and then partially wiping it off. In contrast, limewash is a type of paint. German schmear is essentially permanent, lasting one to two decades with minimal maintenance, whereas limewash has a shorter lifespan of five to seven years. Cost-wise, German schmear is about $1 to $4 per square foot and is typically only available in white or gray.

You should use an angled brush to first paint the mortar lines, then go in with a high-density roller to evenly paint the bricks one at a time. You can also use a flat paintbrush to paint individual bricks, but a roller is faster and easier to use thanks to its longer handle and wider surface area for coating the bricks. To finish, go in with the paint brush for edges or hard-to-reach areas.
