"R W Carpet & Flooring did an excellent job. Richard, the owner, was very easy to work with, and he went out of his way to communicate options and always got back to me as promised. His installers were very courteous and explained what they were doing so I didn’t feel out of the loop. My bathroom came out great and I’m glad I used R W Carpet & Flooring for this job."

"Excellent. The installers did a great job floors are beautiful, they cleaned up after themselves, were polite but friendly, and worked very hard completing the job in two days. They moved the furniture for us and had our king bed reassembled so we never missed a night,s sleep. I would recommend them to anyone."

"NE Flooring was very responsive in meeting my project needs. They quickly sent a person to look at the work required, then sent pictures of the repair needed and within minutes I received their quote. I found their quote very reasonable but waited a couple of days to receive other quotes. When I decided to go with NE Flooring, just prior to the busy July 4th weekend, they immediately sent a team to make the repair the next day. They were able to do an outstanding job in repairing the floor and matching the stain on my flooring. They even came back the following day to check their work and to put another protective coating on the floor. Overall, they did an excellent job and I would highly recommend them."

"Chris and his team were incredible! Chris was so communicative, organized, and efficient. They refinished the original maple floors in our 1910 colonial that had so much wear and tear from decades of foot traffic and now they look like new again! I would highly recommend Chris Arruda Wood Flooring and will definitely be reaching back out for future hardwood floor work."

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

In Providence, the timeline for flooring projects depends on the material and home type. Hardwood flooring installation typically takes 3–7 days, laminate or vinyl plank can be finished in 2–4 days, tile floors often require 5–10 days, and carpet is usually installed in 1–2 days. Projects in historic homes or during winter may take longer due to extra preparation and acclimation needs.

Helpful?

For flooring projects in Providence, skipping a thorough subfloor inspection is a frequent error, especially in older homes. Homeowners sometimes neglect to address moisture concerns or fail to acclimate materials to local humidity. Overlooking historic district requirements or not following lead-safe practices in pre-1978 homes can also cause setbacks. Planning around extreme weather and verifying local flooring installation guidelines are essential steps.

Helpful?

Providence’s humid summers and cold winters can cause wood flooring to expand or contract, leading to gaps or warping if not managed properly. High humidity may extend installation and curing times for some flooring materials. For best results, schedule flooring projects in late spring or early fall, when temperature and humidity are more stable, to ensure optimal installation conditions and long-lasting results.

Helpful?

When hiring a flooring professional in Providence, prioritize experience with older homes and knowledge of local moisture challenges. Ask for references from similar flooring installation projects in your neighborhood. Ensure the contractor follows lead-safe practices for pre-1978 homes and understands any historic preservation needs. Reliable pros provide detailed written estimates, carry proper insurance, and never pressure you for immediate decisions or cash-only payments.

Helpful?

When planning flooring projects in Providence, consider whether your home is in a historic district, as visible changes may require approval. Narrow streets and limited parking can affect material delivery and contractor access. Many older homes have unique features like stone foundations or radiator heating, which can influence flooring choices and installation methods. Always confirm local flooring installation requirements before starting.
