"It all went amazingly. First, Francisco got back to me very quickly and came to give a bid very quickly. His price was very competitive and of the several bids we got he was the only one who was able and willing to do everything we needed without hemming and hawing about it. (Patching holes and doing some repair on a doorframe that rotted.) That was all included in the price. His guys were great. Basically once I said yes and paid the deposit, I didn’t have to do or think about anything. Even when the weather was a bit crazy Francisco was very communicative about when they’d be back, and they were. I didn’t remember if we had discussed a few windows, and some areas that needed extra attention after the project was done. They were dealt with asap, at no extra charge. He gave me tips on keeping it nice, and gave some extra paint for when the kids (and probably me) inevitably mess up the brand new paint. I also like that he and his wife both have small businesses in philly. I would highly recommend New Era Pro for exterior painting projects. I would use them again for sure, but because of the quality products and quality of work, hopefully I won’t have to!"

"I had three rooms, a stair well and hallway painted. My house is 98 years old. The woodwork was worn, under several bad paint jobs and an accumulation of drips, ridges, and poorly bonded layers. The plaster of the walls was uneven, due to age and settling, poor plastering over drywall repairs and a few places where the plaster detached from the lathe. It needed more than a “light sand and paint,” which was all most of the 8 or so painters I interviewed were willing to do. This house needed an intervention. After two interviews, Apostoli understood the conditions of the house, what I wanted done, and was willing to do all the prep work that would be necessary. But his team didn’t just run with it. They paused and had me review their work a few times in the first days to clarify what I wanted. After that, they would ask for my review of each room as it was finished. I’m a perfectionist about painting and had painted some of the house myself so I knew how much work was involved and, in some cases, how I wanted it done. Apostoli and his crew were very patient and listened to my sometimes detailed instructions and concerns. They did a lot of scraping, sanding, priming, filling — a lot of filling — caulking and finally sanding down the woodwork to flat and smooth surfaces. They did a lot of patching and skim coating of the plaster walls and ceilings. They discovered the plaster of three ceilings had detached from the lathe and replaced them. The crew, Craig, DJ, and Kareem, were great to work with. They were congenial and took pride in their work. They were respectful of our property and privacy. I felt comfortable having them in my home. They showed up every day until the project was finished. They worked steadily from 8 when they arrived, took a lunch, and continued working until they left, often at 5:30 or 6. They sealed the doorway of each room with plastic to contain most of the dust. They cleaned up at the end of every work day, gathered their equipment in one place, and swept and vacuumed the work area. They were open to requests, took corrections well and asked questions if they were in doubt. They reserved the last day for touch ups that they had flagged as they worked. I removed all hardware to protect it and facilitate the sanding and painting. At their request I created a detailed list of all paints and where they were to be applied which they followed flawlessly. You might want to drape furniture in the rest of the house for dust and have them cover the path from the entrance of the house to the work area with paper taped to the floor. If you have any chemical sensitivity, you should talk with them up front as some of the fillers and primers they use have a strong smell. The results exceeded my expectations. The plaster of the walls and ceilings is now smooth and looks like new. The woodwork has flat surfaces, smooth curves and sharper detail. What had appeared as an old, worn and neglected interior now looks bright and well-maintained."

Steve responded to my inquiry very quickly and provided a written quote within one day. He was professional, on time, neat and clean. Price was fair and work was expertly done. I would highly recommend Steve"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood to help prevent the boards from cracking. However, you must wait for the wood to dry out completely before applying any finish. Freshly treated wood can take weeks or even months to dry; a common recommendation is to wait three to six months. To check if the wood is ready, perform a simple water test: drip some water onto the surface. If the water beads up, the wood is still too wet and needs more time to dry. If the wood absorbs the water, it is dry enough to be painted or stained. You can proceed with building your deck or fence while the wood is still wet, but you will need to wait to apply the paint or stain.

Wood stain is typically dry to the touch within 6 to 12 hours, but it is not fully cured at this point. You should wait at least 24 hours before applying a second coat or a protective finish. For surfaces like decks, avoid walking on them for at least 24 to 48 hours, and wait even longer before placing furniture. The full curing process can take from 24 hours to one week, depending on the type of stain. Factors like high humidity and cold temperatures can extend drying and curing times, so it's wise to allow for extra time in these conditions.

The best time to paint your deck is when temperatures are neither too cold (below 60 degrees) nor too hot (above 85 degrees). Always paint your deck when there’s no risk of rain. For fast-drying paint like acrylic or latex, ensure your deck can dry for at least four hours. Oil-based paints take longer to dry and may require 48 hours to completely cure.

Ideally, it's best to stain your dock once per year. Applying stain doesn't just keep it looking nice and new; it also helps extend the dock’s lifespan. Since you want to ensure water levels are at their lowest, it's best to have this project done by a professional dock repair service in the cooler autumn or early winter months.

It’s important to make sure the wood on a new deck is properly seasoned. Seasoning a deck is simple: Once you build it (or have a pro do so), just leave it alone so it can acclimate to the environment. If you don’t give the deck proper seasoning time before staining, the stain can lock in any lingering moisture and cause mold, rot, and other moisture issues down the road. Give the wood at least four to eight weeks to season before you stain.
