"You will not go wrong by hiring Fred and his crew. All I can say is I was in a tight spot, couldn't do laundry and my wife was coming home from a family visit..she would not be happy. The birds, they did this! lol.. but seriously..they had made a nest a few feet into the duct, I couldn't take care of it due to work. Was referred to him via my HVAC guy.. Comfort Solutions..also good folks. Fred went out of his way to fit me into his schedule, and though I was travelling when he repaired things, my wife said they were extremely nice and professional. She doesn't just say those things..after 20yrs of marriage, that's probably the 3rd time I've heard her praise a contractor. Anyway.. get your ducts in a row. Call Fred..don't chance it. Get it done right the first time, at a fair price."

"The pro did the work of cleaning out the dryer vents. However, they left without discussing what they learned from the work. The picture that they sent with their project completion did not have particularly good pictures and did NOT show the lint that was removed from the vent exhaust. Moreover, the summary description of the work simply said that no problem was detected. Nothing about the exhaust cleaning. I called the office. The lady I spoke to kept talking about the quality work they did which did not answer my question about the lint removal. She did say there were pictures attached to the report. I agreed, but it was only of the vent and the roof. She sent me additional pictures that clearly showed the volume of lint removed on the roof. In my opinion, this whole experience could have been avoided if 1) the report summary explained that lint was removed, in addition to "there were no problems noted", and 2) all the pictures taken by the technicians been included."

Dryer Vent Cleaning FAQs, answered by experts

Using less toilet paper is the easiest way to prevent future clogs. Also, avoid flushing sanitary products, thick paper towels, or hair down the toilet. If you’ve been using a brick in the tank to reduce the water used to flush the toilet, take it out immediately. Bricks will eventually fall apart and clog your toilet drain. Keeping your toilet lid closed also helps avoid future clogs.

The average cost of a dryer vent ranges from $100 to $300 for the various models, but that price doesn’t include installation. If you're hiring a pro, the labor cost to install a dryer vent will be an additional $20 to $35 per hour. The job takes roughly two to four hours, so that’s an extra $40 to $140 altogether.

You should not put boric acid into your home’s air vents. While sprinkling boric acid in roach-prone areas is an effective way to get rid of them, it’s not safe to introduce those chemicals into your home’s air system. Instead, put boric acid or diatomaceous earth in a spot that roaches may walk through, infesting them and the rest of the infestation.

Yes, mold can grow in a wet dryer vent. Mold is a type of fungi, and fungi thrive in warm, moist conditions. Dryer vents need to be aired out so heat can escape and moisture can dry. If your dryer vents aren’t properly vented, the trapped heat and moisture will cause mold to grow, and the mold can spread to the dryer and even your clothes. Not only can this leave a musty smell on your freshly laundered clothes, but—more importantly—it also poses a health risk.

Failing to open your flue can lead to serious health hazards if you start a fire because the smoke will back up into your home. Breathing fire smoke, even in relatively small quantities, is bad for human lungs, and smoke can also irritate your nasal passages and eyes. Furthermore, smoke can cause damage to your interior fixtures and furnishings, at the very least leaving an unpleasant smoky smell for a long time. In short: If your flue isn’t open (or you’re not sure if it is or not), don’t start a fire to find out!
