In our case, Jonathan not only had to tear out a significant amount of old shrubbery & dispose of it, but did minor regrading, provided a French drain with tie-ins to our downspouts, & provided a finished landscape project with a very impressive finished project. Longer lengths are always better for striping, so mowing your grass to between 2½ to 4 inches tall. More length allows for optimal bendiness, plus it helps your lawn stay healthier, too. Remember, never mow more than ⅓ of the grass height at once to keep your lawn looking green and healthy.

It’s possible to over-mulch leaves. If the leaf mulch is thick enough that it’s blocking and smothering the grass, that’s a problem. Ideally, you should still be able to see the grass when you’re done mulching to ensure its ability to continue growing. The solution is to make another pass at the top layer of leaf mulch to collect some of the top layer.

Depending on the method you choose to remove grass, it may or may not matter whether the grass is wet or dry when you perform the task. A dryer lawn will be easier to negotiate with a sod cutter, especially if you're not planning to reuse the turf. However, using a shovel by hand might be a little easier if the ground is slightly damp but not so much that it sticks to the tool.  

Both zoysia grass and bermuda grass are somewhat similar to St. Augustine because they’re all warm-season grasses. Beyond that, most grass types have unique properties that set them apart. Zoysia grass costs twice the price of St. Augustine grass on average and it has thinner blades and a deeper green appearance. Bermuda grass, compared to St. Augustine, has much thinner blades, is softer to the touch, and has a higher tolerance for colder weather.

Ticks prefer tall grass and seek out shady and moist areas. So, in some instances a no-mow lawn may increase tick population in your yard. This scenario is not ideal if you spend lots of time in your yard or if you have pets. If you spray pesticide then this can also harm the pollinators. However, you can make a DIY tick killer with more natural ingredients to avoid using toxic chemicals.
