We have three full time employees and we use 2-3 subcontractors from time to time (for roofing and basement waterproofing). None of these subcontractors however are handed off the job. They work in conjunction side by side with Lake Effect owner/operators. We have many payment options including PayPal and accept all major credit cards. We normally would like 50% down a day or two before we start or the day of and the other 505 upon completion. We are running an indoor work promo for any work scheduled inside before 12-31-15. That is a 10% off offer. We also have discounts for senior citizens and veterans (7%). Only one discount can be applied per job.

Glass Block questions, answered by experts

Glass blocks are much thicker than glass panes in traditional windows and serve as better insulators. The overall glass block window is sealed against drafts that allow warm or cool air to escape, saving on energy costs. Since this type of window is sealed airtight into your home, you don’t have to worry about air leaks and drafts as often as traditional windows that open and close. When installing glass block windows, look for options that are Energy Star rated, proving their energy efficiency.

Glass block windows cost about $710 to install, ranging from $460 to $980. The cost factors of installing this type of specialty window include the opening size, design, layout, height, glass block type, installation type, and location. There are many block styles to choose from, including colored, clear, wavy, diamond, and frosted.

Consider the following price ranges of installing glass blocks based on size:

  • 25-by-25 inches: $60–$300

  • 31-by-31 inches: $65–$350

  • 36-by-36 inches: $85–$475

  • 48-by-48 inches: $155–$840

Glass block windows aren’t fire hazards; fire-rated glass block windows can increase your home’s fire safety. Modern glass blocks are made with materials that can resist high temperatures and prevent fire spread. Most offer a 45-minute fire rating, while some increase it to two hours. Compared to the typical 20 to 90 minute rating for a double-pane window, glass block can increase your home’s safety in the event of a fire.

Glass walls are more expensive overall than their brick or drywall counterparts. However, if you need walls for a building with more than two or three stories, glass walls are the more budget-friendly option.

Heavy glass tends to be more expensive than thin glass because it is stronger and more durable. In most cases, ¼-inch-thick glass is ideal for mirrors, and ⅛-inch-thick glass is ideal for residential windows. Heavier glass isn’t always necessary, and can be more challenging to hang or install. Work with a local window installation pro for replacement or new construction windows.
