"I emailed 3 vendors from Angie's list for this job. The next day, James Parker responded that he'd be there the following day. He arrived on time, quickly gave me a price that I found to be fair. We agreed. The same day he called to say that his men could start within the hour. The job was completed before I heard back from the competition [still haven't heard from the 3rd vendor after 2 weeks]. James is conscientious, a great listener, ready to work and to satisfy the customer. He'll get my call for future roofing needs."

"This was a very difficult job between two roof peaks to correct a construction defect. Gideon did a fantastic job. I climbed up on the roof myself to get as closer look once the job was completed and the quality and workmanship is top notch."

"I hired Home Run Roofing to replace by roof and gutters, and I could not be more satisfied with the overall experience. They offered multiple options for my project, all of which were affordable and competitive. Reviewing and selecting a work estimate and applying for financing was a 2025 customer service experience (as opposed to a CS experience expected 10, 15, or 25 years ago), which in part distinguished them from other companies I met with. When I had any questions during the project it was very easy to reach my my contact at Home Run Roofing to answer my question. The crew assigned to the job were outstanding. The work was completed within two days (one day for the roof, the second for the gutters) and everything was thoroughly cleaned up afterwards. Since the project's completion I have received multiple compliments about how beautiful the new roof and gutters look."

"New roof was installed with excellent craftsmanship by workers who seem to be proud of their work. Sales consultant and scheduler were communicative and abreast of the progress of the project. There was much attention to detail in installing the new shingles, and necessary unexpected repairs that were identified were done without delay. The workers are efficient and effective. The areas are gone over and left spotless with followup people coming by the next day to be sure all is in order."

Customers say: True professional

"We had the shingles replaced on our roof due to hail damage. We were very happy with the quality of the work performed. The owner of the company, Kevin Hall, did all he could to make certain that we were happy and satisfied. Extra care was taken to insure that our trees, shrubs, and roses were not damaged as they were against the house. The cleanup was great as well! No left over nails, shingles, etc. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone needing work performed."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Tipping your roofer or their crew is not customary or expected, but it is always appreciated. It is entirely up to you whether you want to give them extra money for their work. If you feel they have done an exceptional job, a tip can be a nice gesture. As an alternative way to show appreciation, you can provide coffee, breakfast, drinks, or grab-and-go snacks like cookies or doughnuts.

Manufacturers, insurance companies, and municipality regulations are phasing out three-tab shingles. Because of their short lifespan and lack of durability compared to other roofing material types, manufacturers are leaning toward better products, and cities and insurers are starting to require better building materials overall. However, 3-tab shingles are still for sale, and some roofing companies still install them.

Walking on tiles can chip or shatter them, meaning any kind of DIY repair isn't possible. You need a trained professional to install the tiles and fix any problems. Get in touch with a top-rated tile roof repair contractor near you if your tile roof gets damaged.

Mansard roofs provide more attic space or living space on the interior than many other styles, and they offer a classic appearance and old-world charm to any home. They also often have multiple windows on the lower hip, providing ample natural light and ventilation.

On the other hand, they’re more expensive to install and replace due to their complexity and rarity, and the low slope of the upper hip means that heavy snowfall can be an issue. Additionally, they’re more prone to leaking than many other roof styles.

While the terms are often used interchangeably, wood shakes and wood shingles have notable differences, primarily in their manufacturing and appearance. Wood shingles are machine-cut on both sides, resulting in a smooth, thin, and uniform product. In contrast, wood shakes are typically hand-split or sawed on only one side, giving them a more textured, natural, and rustic appearance. Due to these manufacturing differences, shakes are generally thicker, heavier, and less uniform than shingles. They are also more expensive. Homeowners seeking a more rustic aesthetic often choose shakes, while those preferring a more uniform look may opt for shingles. Both are installed in an overlapping pattern to create a durable, weather-resistant roof.
