Mike was very professional and kept in touch with me via email regarding the delay in setting up a time to do the work -- weather was causing a back-up in his schedule of completing jobs.  Regarding the work, I'm no expert but can simply say he and his crew did the work as described in the estimate and it looks good.  They also noticed some issues that were not in the original estimate, but I knew of and had forgotten to ask him about (porch roof separating from main house, loose siding) -- he addressed these as well with not much of an additional charge.  I can just say he was easy to work with and communicate with, the work looks good, and the price was acceptable -- all good things in my book.

Mike came out several times to discuss a leak we were having in a second-floor middle bedroom. His first solution was to make sure the attic window was closed. Did that. Didn't help. Next he caulked up the window. Took him a long time to get to it, and I had to call him several times. Didn't help. He also did something to another window to stop a leak that occurred during driving rain. That didn't help either. Had him back out to look at the original leak. Without ever getting on the roof, he suggested he could take off a section of roof and redo it, but didn't know if it would help. He seemed to advise me to live with it. Live with rain pouring into my son's bedroom two or three times a year? His solutions differed from what seemed to be standard suggestions from other roofers. But again, he never got up on the roof to look for a problem. In the end, we had spent a lot of time working with someone and paid some money and called him several times to get him out. But we received no suggestion or real effort on his part to figure out what the problem was. It wasn't like we had broken the bank by paying him $250, but it wasn't like he did much either. You'd like someone to make a genuine effort to help. After three or four meetings with him and a lot of waiting and phone calls, I was left with the same problem, right back where I started.

Workers were on time and finished in the estimated time.  They did a really good job cleaning up.  Best of all - one year later when I had a problem with the gutters, they canme right out and fixed it.

Michael Scheinfield came when he said he would and did a preliminary appraisal. The price was considerably less than the other bid I had received plus it was a removal of old shingles where the other contractor wanted to apply new shingles over the old. They removed old shingles and found some rot so had to replace some of the plywood which added to the bid but was very reasonable. A very favorable experience and now I don't dread the rain.....porch doesn't leak at all! Will use the contractor again if I ever need it.

The work commenced within two weeks of our accepting the proposal and was completed in one week (including time off for Thanksgiving). We were very pleased with the quality of the work and the thoroughness of the cleanup. At our request, Mike personally cleaned splinters and other debris from our attic (this meant shaking out sheets I had used to cover things stored up there and sweeping the floor). Also, when we found that a small porcelain ceiling fixture had been shaken loose from a bedroom closet (lots of hammering!), Mike personally installed a replacement fixture that we had on hand.

So-so experience. Job was bid and performed in the depths of the recession - I think he priced it so low that he needed to cut corners. Plus: did job quickly, when scheduled. Old roof was removed with only medium amount of mess. New roof went on OK. He did an OK job installing a skylight in the new roof. Minus: He reused the old gutters, which I would not recommend anyone else do - they were pretty battered by the time they had been removed and replaced. Some of them still don't drain right. Here's the worst part: on the last day, one of his guys fell off the roof. My wife was in the dining room and saw him bounce off our back stairs and land on the grass. Fortunately, he didn't seem to be badly hurt, as he ultimately landed on boggy grass. However, Scheinfeld, when told about this, took more than an hour to show up, and the injured worker called us a few days later asking for our homeowner's policy info, thinking that we would be paying for his medical care - can you believe it? I run a small business and am very familiar with the concept of Workmen's Comp - no telling what was going on between Scheinfeld and his workers, but something seemed to be very, very wrong. A couple of our gutters still don't drain right, despite several calls to have them adjusted. But the roof no longer leaks.

They were good. They were fast, efficient, reasonable and their repair was fine. We spent about $1200 on that work. They are a local company and I like that.

First, let me complain about roofers in general. They seem uninterested in doing repairs and just want to do a whole new roof, which is very expensive. They don't return calls and even when they do, they often don't come out to look things over, and when they do, they don't always come through with an estimate. We had a couple of leaks for many years and had been unsuccessful in finding someone to fix it definitively. Mike Scheinfield sent his long-term guy Matthew and we got a friendly visit and a timely estimate. While we tried to get comparison estimates, he offered a discount, as they had some extra time in-between jobs. Since his was the best estimate, we went ahead. We were pleased with their service and attention. So far, the roof has not leaked again. Of course, we have to wait until there are a few more heavy downpours to know for sure if it is fixed definitively. They gave us a year guarantee (mainly because it was a repair and not a whole new roof).

The roof was in worse shape than we expected so it did cost more than the original estimate. Otherwise, everything went well. Workers were professional and the work was completed in a timely manner. They were able to do multiple tasks (roof, chimney flashing, liner, fireplace) so we didn't have to hire multiple contractors.

The repair was ok, but we had a very heavy rain and it continues to leak. They attempted to fix the problem, but it still continues to leak only under heavy rain conditions. We called them back to correct the issue, they never responded by calling us back. We are willing to pay to have the problem fixed, and have used them for over 15 yours, but we have been unsuccessful in getting them to respond.
Response from Scheinfield Contractors
"THE ROOF WAS BEYOND REPAIR AND THE CUSTOMER NEEDS A NEW ROOF."
