"Rick at Epic took our deposit money and guaranteed a max amount would be withheld if we backed out our project. After receiving a quote that was $70k over our budget, which he said he could work within our budget and would not provide a quote without deposit, we decided to back out. During the whole process Epic cancelled or rescheduled meetings at the last minute several times and was overall unresponsive. Epic the billed us double what they initially said would be the max. After much discussion they finally agreed to honor the original agreement. Since then, they have not sent any additional refund that was agreed upon and have stopped responding to communication. This was our first experience with a home builder and the worst experience I’ve had with any vendor of any kind. There are plenty of builder options, STAY AWAY FROM EPIC!!!"

To remove solvent-based sealer, you can pressure wash the surface and wait for the concrete to dry. You may need a special remover product if you have a water-based concrete sealer. Another option is to etch and neutralize the concrete. 

A layer of exposed aggregate concrete should be 1 to 2 inches thick if you’re installing it on top of existing concrete. If you’re pouring a new slab with the finish, slab thickness will depend on the application. Exposed aggregate concrete driveways should be 4 to 6 inches thick in most cases or 8 to 12 inches for commercial vehicles. Sidewalks, patios, and walkways should be 4 inches thick.

Yes, you should screw your flange to the subfloor, including cement. The best way to get this done is to predrill holes into the concrete using a hammer drill and a ¼-inch concrete bit. For the purposes of a patio, 4 inches in thickness without reinforcement should suffice unless you’re installing heavy kitchen equipment or a hot tub on it. In those cases, reinforcing your slab and sticking with 4 inches of thickness should provide plenty of strength.
