"We had our basement waterproofed by Baker's. It's been bone-dry since. We did have one piece of equipment fail within a month of the installation, but it was a third party dehumidifier that was just a dud I guess, no fault of Baker's. I texted the project manager about it on a Sunday. I expected a response the following week. He got back to me within the hour. The equipment was removed and replaced within a couple days. Everything great since. I would highly recommend Baker's, but specifically our project manager Nathan Goddard and the head guy on site Daylan. Can't remember his last name, but he's got a long beard and did a great job. Thanks to both of them and the rest of the guys."

The first step to preventing foundation cracks is to repair any current ones. When one crack forms, it becomes more likely that a second crack will follow. A few other tips include performing regular foundation checks, cleaning spouts and gutters, and installing exterior drains if needed. For those living in a hot and arid area, you should water your foundation every other day.

Mold and other fungi love moisture, so the best way to prevent mold growth after water damage is to remove as much moisture as possible. First, find the source of the water or moisture, such as a leak or clogged gutters, and correct the problem. Next, remove standing water, vacuum up puddles with a shop vacuum, and run blower fans and dehumidifiers for 24 to 72 hours. Once you've removed all traces of moisture, disinfect the area using either vinegar or bleach to kill any remaining mold spores.

Some disadvantages of crawl spaces are mostly regarding the air itself—moisture build-up and poor ventilation, which can cause problems both in the house and underneath it, even damaging the foundation itself. Crawl spaces are difficult to access and often invite unwanted pests during the hot summer months and the cold winter ones. These hard-to-seal spaces are also susceptible to water damage during periods of heavy rain or melting snow.

The purpose of crawl space encapsulation is to prevent mold and moisture from entering your space. If your vapor barrier is properly installed and intact, it will dramatically reduce the chance that your crawl space develops mold. That said, moisture can condense in the area. If you notice excess humidity, you may need to install a dehumidifier to stave off mold and mildew growth.

Since the French drain uses a perforated pipe covered by gravel, you won’t have to worry about water taking the soil away from your foundation. Meanwhile, yard grading levels out the ground to prevent water from gathering around your foundation.
