"Very professional experience with Mina, the engineer who thoroughly explained his findings and suggested remedies. He confirmed house settlement suspicions and causes in a lengthy, detailed report complete with photos. I trust Kiro Engineering and would highly recommend them for structural engineering consultation and peace of mind."

"Dee finished the drawings in a timely manner. He made revisions to fine tune and included an optional alternate floor plan I requested for a very reasonable up charge. I’m sure I’ll be using Dee again in the future."

"I had a great experience working with Glenwood Engineering LLC. I was in the process of selling my home and the buyer's mortgage company was requiring a structural engineer to certify the home was structurally sound as the joists in the basement had some previous termite damage. An engineer was able to come out in less than a week and although the initial report indicated some repairs that would be necessary everything needed was clearly stated. I was able to get a contractor to come do the repairs and Glenwood Engineering LLC was able to send the engineer out for a reinspection only two days after the repairs were complete. The customer service was outstanding and thanks to how quickly they were able to send an engineer out both for inspection and for reinspection we were able to close on time. I would definitely use their services again."

"Anthony and John were a pleasure to work with! They took our vision and made it a reality! Their suggestions in some of the planning were spot on and made our house our dream home. They were responsive to our requests and would take the time to explain to us why they were suggesting certain features. So easy to work with, friendly, funny and timely! True professionals with the added touch of feeling like you’re working with family. They were truly invested in our project and it truly showed in EVERY detail. I would welcome the opportunity to work Bruttaniti Architecture in the future and would certainly recommend them to anyone for any of your architecture needs!!"

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

In Media, homes built before 1950 often feature knob-and-tube wiring, plaster walls, or stone foundations that require careful handling during structural engineering work. Look for signs like sloping floors, doors that won’t close smoothly, or visible cracks near load-bearing walls. Balloon framing and clay-rich soil can also complicate projects, so a detailed structural inspection is recommended before starting any major work.

Helpful?

Your Media home is a strong candidate if it has a stable foundation, accessible framing, and no major restrictions from historic district regulations. Homes with unfinished basements or attics are easier to assess and reinforce. If your property can accommodate modern building code requirements and isn’t limited by tight lot lines or challenging soil, you’ll benefit from the area’s skilled contractor network and local structural engineering expertise.

Helpful?

In Media, structural engineers pay close attention to foundation systems, especially due to local soil conditions and the age of many homes. Load-bearing walls, floor joists, and roof structures are thoroughly assessed for signs of stress or moisture intrusion. Basements are checked for water issues and structural support, ensuring all work aligns with local building codes and any historic preservation guidelines that may apply.

Helpful?

After a structural engineering project in Media, it’s essential to verify that all work meets local building codes and to schedule a professional structural inspection. Keep thorough records of all repairs and modifications. Monitor your home for several months for any signs of settling or new cracks, and perform seasonal checks on your foundation and load-bearing walls, especially after periods of heavy rain or freezing temperatures.

Helpful?

As homes in Media age, structural engineering needs become more complex. Newer properties may only require minor repairs, but homes over 50 years old often need foundation waterproofing, reinforcement of load-bearing walls, or replacement of aging joists. The region’s freeze-thaw cycles and humidity can accelerate deterioration, making regular structural inspections and timely upgrades increasingly important for maintaining long-term stability.
