"Basically, this company was great.
Ed, the person who did my initial estimate was very professional, helpful, and not pushy at all on what work I should have done.  I never felt like he was trying to up sell me - he just gave me his honest opinion on what I should do considering my requirements.  He ended up making a single recommendation for all the equipment to be installed based on what I said and what he understood I needed.  For example, he didn't show me a brochure of furnaces to pick from in order to pressure me into picking a furnace that is more expensive that what I need (which is how other companies I looked at did).  He just recommended a high quality, but basic-level furnace and water heater that appropriately met the needs of my home.
In addition to spending the time with me explaining how his company could do the water heater and furnace work, I was also able to ask him a lot of questions about how central air conditioning could be added to my home in the future.  He was able to clearly describe the pros and cons all the ways I could do this, and how much each way would approximately cost.  He never pressured me into doing the A/C work, and I decided not to pursue it for now...but I feel like I know what I will do when I decide to.  And I'll probably choose East Coast Comfort to do that work.
The installation of the new equipment was an equally nice experience.  I was not able to be there during the work other than to let them in, but my partner was there the whole time and he had nothing but good things to say about (1) the work that was done and (2) the attitude/quality of the people doing the work.  They were friendly and professional throughout the duration of the job.
Finally, the price for all of this was great!  I got 3 other quotes, all from companies rated A on Angie's list, and these guys charged at least 2k less than the other companies.
So on all accounts East Coast Comfort gave me a great experience and I certainly recommend them.

"He was hired to remove one mounted tv and replace it with a larger tv. It ended up being somewhat complicated but he did a great job. He was very nice and knowledgeable. I would recommend him."

"Their crew was awesome as always! We had contractors out for some other work and they found some wiring surprises. Mike was out very quickly to look at the work, and talk over things with my contractors. He got me a quote that night and their crew were over that Monday. They moved a few wires so that our kitchen could have a window into the living room, rewired the doorbell and front switches and moved our kitchen light. I very much appreciate their flexibility and professionalism."

"Basement Gurus is the best for your basement and waterproofing needs. Daniel Kelly, the owner is very personable and made me feel comfortable every step of the way. The process was seamless and quick. I had water damage in my garage that was running into my basement, and Dan himself came out and did an assessment and came up with a rock solid solution to fix my issue. I am also a military service member and have been for over 20 years and this company is definitely pro-military and also supportive of all other first responders. They stand by there work and offer a lifetime warranty. I would definitely recommend Basement Gurus to my friends and family, as they are a five star company."

"Selected Universal Air LLC to add central air conditioning to my 1860 farmhouse after interviewing 3 other companies. The owner, Bill Leone, spent 2 hours with me looking over the house and explaining in detail how he would tackle the project. The install crew did a wonderful job; very neat and nice, polite guys, a real plus especially when they're going to be in your home everyday for at least a week! Offered me great financing too through a company called Green Sky. Highly recommend Universal Air LLC especially if your looking to add central air to an older home. They made a real success of what I considered to be a daunting project."

"We did basement remodel (unfinished prior to with no plumbing) with All-Phase/Joe Stillman. Remodel included a full bathroom (extensive plumbing/concrete work), a large kitchen style wet bar with sink/cabinets/granite countertop/glass doors/mirror, a custom home theater and a large open playroom. Theater included a LOT of custom wiring and installation for multiple components including custom LED accent lights, 9 speakers, various TV/video/stereo components, and large projector, etc. The bar had custom lighting and custom granite countertops. Large full bath installed with closets, shower, vanity, toilet. Used a mixture of LVT and carpet. Also enlarged/opened up the stairway. The entire basement had to be wired as well for lights/outlets/etc. I think we have the most organized and well-labeled electric panel I have ever seen. We had all the interior walls built and drywalled as well as drywalling the ceilings. We installed additional venting to the HVAC system and added a stairway closet. The All Phase crew was fantastic. Those gentlemen were always on time, never late, showed up when they said they would. They were very courteous, considerate, tidy, clean, diligent, competent and conscientious. If there was ever a change to their schedule they always called and let me know. I was very comfortable with them in the house on a daily basis for several weeks. They took extra precautions to try and alleviate the construction dust and protect our existing flooring in our home. Great with my kids and dog. Good guys, every one of them. We are very pleased with the quality and scale of work done. Joe is a straight forward, honest, ethical business owner and I would absolutely recommend him and All Phase. We will be hiring All Phase for our next project in the upcoming year or two!!!"

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

Yes, many providers offer design consultations to create unique structures. Confirm with your contractor.

Italianate architecture is a reinterpretation of Renaissance styles, combining elements of Italian farmhouses and villas with Victorian materials and construction. This home style emerged in the Victorian era, gaining popularity in the U.S. in the mid-to late-1800s. The style came about in response to what many then viewed as the too-rigid and stuffy Classical style designs.

While it’s never too early to start planning for a major home improvement project like a home addition, give yourself at least a month or two to plan and design your addition, find a contractor, and get the permits in order. For larger projects like a second-story addition that require designing with an architect, plan on three to four months of preparation.

The cost to draw house plans typically ranges from $800 to $2,700, with standard blueprints averaging around $1,800. For a custom home, the cost is higher, with blueprints often falling between $5,000 and $20,000, and potentially more for very complex designs. Several factors influence the total price, including the project's size, the number of rooms, the type of drawings required, and the architect's experience level. You may also need to pay a structural engineer to ensure building safety, particularly for custom homes.
