He was able to answer all of our questions and walk us through different options, while being mindful of our budget. Just to highlight what all he did to repair our chimney. A safe working platform was erected. The old cap was removed and the brick was demoed to the flashing. All the brick was cleaned and relayed in tinted mortar to match existing masonry. A new crown was installed with custom stainless steal cage. The chimney was washed cleaned and sealed all debris were cleaned up and scaffolding was removed. We were so happy with the results. We would absolute hire him again."

A fireplace hearth is a fireproof flooring material that extends out from the base of the fireplace and into the room. Hearths can be made of brick, ceramic, marble, limestone, and more. Prefabricated fireboxes come with a full flue and chimney system, significantly reducing the price and installation time. However, if you need to replace the panels down the line, you are locked into the same model or something very similar.

Once your ashes have fully cooled, you can place them in a heavy-duty trash bag and put them into the bin with your normal trash. If you have wood ash, you can add the ash to your composting pile or sprinkle it over your grass or plants directly for added nutrients.

Labor and regional factors contribute to cost variation, but typical rates for thorough cleaning range from $100 to $250, depending on the chimney type.

Certain fireplace repairs will require that your contractor is licensed, including anything that involves moving, installing, or repairing gas lines. In that case, your professional will need to be a certified plumber. You can use Angi’s licensing lookup tool to confirm that the company you’re hiring is properly licensed. Most states don’t have specific license requirements for other fireplace repairs, but most demand at least a general contractor’s license. It’s also a good idea to look for companies certified by the National Fireplace Institute, as those pros tend to be more qualified to carry out the repair.
