"Dave is a master of his trade. He is highly communicative, knowledgeable, and professional. He replaced an existing 100-amp electrical panel with a new 100-amp panel and installed new circuit breakers. Throughout the project, he provided valuable information and took the time to answer our questions. We would not hesitate to use Rittner's Electric again and highly recommend them to anyone in need of electrical services."

"Mike and Trevor, of Freedom Electrical, upgraded my home electrical service from 100 Amp to 200 Amp service. Mike provided a cost proposal based on a site visit. He was professional, competent, and learned what my needs were. When I accepted the proposal and initiated work, Freedom Electrical provided me updates on when they would be to my home and that was based on when the electric company would be available to shut down the house electricity. They arrived in the early morning on the scheduled date and worked until the project was completed, about 8 hours. I visited each of them every couple of hours to see the progress, and ask questions. They both were happy to answer my questions. Everything went without a hitch and the new panel had wires run to circuit breakers that looked so organized it reminded me of the lines on a computer chip circuit board! They were able to run a bran new 240 volt 40 Amp circuit with 6 gauge wire from the new panel through my basement wall to the outside of my house and terminate the circuit at an 'emergency shutoff' box. The incoming service line and the new circuit had putty packed around the cables where they entered the house (to prevent insects / rodents from entering through the holes). Before the left the site, I was informed that an inspector would be coming by. Once the inspector arrived and noticed the 'Freedom Electrical' sticker on my new panel, he said something like 'oh yah, these guys make my job real easy - they do the best work I have ever seen'. I highly recommend Freedom Electrical for anything requiring a professional electrician."

"Excellent. Electrical work in a 120 year old house in not easy at best, its a real challenge that includes working in the old attic and basement. The fans are beautiful and both working as promised. They cleaned up after the job and worked steady the whole time they were here. Could not be more pleased and will use them again whenever I need electrical work done. Thanks!"

"HL Bowman came through when we needed them most. Our AC failed on the hottest day of the year, and they had us back up and running with a full new system installed the very next day. The technicians were knowledgeable, professional, and honest. They explained our options clearly and never pressured us into anything we didn't need. We felt confident we were getting quality equipment at a fair price. HL Bowman only carries best-in-class equipment with a variety of options across different budgets. In a stressful moment, they made the whole thing painless and smooth. Highly recommend."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

No, you shouldn’t immediately reset a tripped breaker. If you don’t know what tripped the breaker, resetting it and continuing the actions that set it off could pose a hazard. It also means your breaker will sustain greater damage if it trips again. If you know the cause of your tripped power, unplug faulty appliances or fix the issues, then reset it, and wait a few minutes before using electricity in that circuit.

Volts and watts aren’t directly convertible units—they measure different aspects of electricity. Volts measure electrical potential, while watts quantify the power. The relationship between the two is defined by the equation: Power (watts)= Voltage (volts) x Current (amperes). In other words, the product of volts and amps results in watts, but there is no fixed conversion of volts into watts.

Yes, the National Electrical Code (NEC) requires that outdoor Christmas lights be plugged into a ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) outlet to prevent hazardous electrical shocks or an electrical fire. It’s a code violation to plug outdoor Christmas lights into a non-GFCI outlet, so be sure to follow these guidelines for a safe and successful installation.

Yes, states and local governments can have additional building codes that address kitchen outlets. In most cases, these kitchen outlet codes simply refer to the NEC. However, states or local municipalities can have separate requirements for electrician licensing, such as requiring a permit to make big changes, and other details.

Yes, it is possible to hang a chandelier without wiring, but it depends on the design of both the chandelier and your ceiling. Many homeowners use plug-in pendant lights, adhesive hook and cord pendants, or nonelectrical light sources to hang a chandelier without wiring.
