They cut out the bad section on 30 July and filled it with some sort of gravelly cold patch. The crew came back about a week later and sealed the driveway Problems: They DID NOT seal the gravelly patch area.........actually, they did seal a small portion of it, but that portion cracked within a few days Leads me to believe sealing any of it was a mistake as they must have KNOWN any part of the patch sealed would crack, but, of course, that leaves the driveway unfinished Highly related problem: The patch still has not totally dried, I can still push in on it with my thumb - and the situation is not getting better Hard to see how this job to be anything but a failure - ie, a waste of $3,600 Sign Grace Betts"

Like refinishing an old run down deck or adding a beautiful paver patio or fire pit to a neglected boring yard. Standard paver sizes that measure 2 3/8 inches are appropriate for placing over concrete. However, always make sure you are not making the area too thick for daily use. A large step between your lawn and the patio can be a tripping hazard, and you need to be able to open and close all doors that swing over the top of the installation.

Concrete is often the default material for a driveway apron, and many local building codes may require this. If you’re not restricted to concrete, however, you can consider alternative driveway apron ideas, such as asphalt, pavers, or gravel. You can also stamp the concrete for an interesting texture, add color to the concrete for a little extra character, or add a swirled trowel finish to your concrete driveway apron.

Gravel is one of the few driveway materials that can handle rain the second it’s installed. Unlike asphalt, which needs days to set, or concrete, which requires weeks to cure, gravel is ready as soon as it’s compacted. It’s naturally permeable, allowing water to drain straight through—with no risk of pooling or surface damage. Gravel driveways are one of the most affordable, at $1 to $3 per square foot, and can also last upward of 100 years.

Most installations take 3-10 days, depending on the area size and design complexity.

The best material to put between pavers is polymeric sand. This sand contains silica and quartz, making it more durable than coarse or regular sand. It hardens after installation, so your pavers stay in place. Best of all, polymeric sand prevents weed growth in the gaps between pavers. You’ll have less maintenance to deal with once spring rolls around.
