"From the first meeting, I liked John. I have a two floor open concept house with about 1400 sq ft. I got prices for ductless, split unit central AC with ductwork and Heating. John came out mindful of what was needed. His price was fair and he fulfilled every promise he made. He gave me suggestions, prices for the choices and gave me 3 references of people who used him for heating and AC. Each reference gave him great reviews. He was timely, his men were meticulous and I am thrilled with my AC. The guys moved things, cleaned up after themselves and were very accommodating to my needs as a customer. I was working from home during the installation so they were mindful when I was on the phone. I would hire him again without hesitation. I was so happy I found them and I am elated with how the central air works. I'm able to set my thermostats remotely and I can set the units at separate temperatures. Now I can get rid of my electric baseboard heaters too. That should save me money too!! Thanks John and team for your outstanding work!"

"Great experience Justin, Nate & Timothy were awesome. Very knowledgeable, professional & curious. Aside from the cleanliness they delivered an experience. I highly recommend HL bowman if you want rapid service on your HVAC. Pricing was reasonable in my opinion & financing is an option. Keep in mind when seeking quotes for your HVAC repair/ new install you must consider performance over equipment, that is if your want a good system that will have a good run/life span."

"The moment we met Jay, from J and T Heating and Cooling company for an estimate for a new Central Air/Central Heat unit, we knew we were in good hands. Jay explained in detailed his vision and made sure we were updated on a daily basis of their progress. The crew was professional and very efficient in making sure everything was done in a timely manner and properly installed. They surpass our expectations in the work they did. They did an amazing job of making everything looked neat like nothing was installed. Our home is cool and like new. I highly recommend this company for any heating or cooling installations."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Air conditioners can stop working in the middle of the night for many reasons. Your local power grid might shut down late at night. Power surges can also trip your breakers if too much power is being used in the area at the time. If your AC is connected to a digital thermostat, it gets naturally cooler at night, so the outdoor temperature might dip below the automated setting to turn the cooling system off.

If refrigerant levels are low, it can cause the evaporator coil to freeze up. Low freon causes a drop in pressure, which will make the coil too cold and cause moisture to freeze on the coil. Your system may be low on refrigerant because of a leak.

Make sure to have maintenance performed twice a year, and contact your local HVAC technician if you suspect your system has low freon levels.

The cost to add Freon to an AC ranges from $100 to $350. It can increase up to $600 for large AC units requiring much more coolant. The cost also depends on how much refrigerant your unit needs. If only a small amount of Freon leaked out, your cost would be on the lower side. A complete replacement of all the required refrigerant can get expensive.

AC capacitors have a wide lifespan, ranging from five to 20 years, with an average of about 10 years. Many capacitors will last for the entire life of the air conditioning unit, and most homeowners only need to replace one once. A capacitor should only be replaced if an HVAC professional diagnoses a problem with it. Premature failure can be caused by overheating, power surges, or short circuits. You can help extend the life of your AC capacitor by scheduling regular AC maintenance each year.

There are a few ways to determine if a vent is open or closed. You can inspect the vent and examine the position of the fins. If there are spaces between them, the vent is open. If the fins are flat and touching, the vent is closed. You can also stand under the vent when the system is running to see if you feel air flowing through it.
