"Excellent. He was the vendor under my main kitchen contractor so I used them. Everything on time and wonderful work. Awesome Quartz counter top on a reno gut job. I still did not select my soap dispenser but he drilled the hole. Very knowledgeable, professional and ontime for template and delivery. Love it. Great guy, great family business. I am going back my daughter just bought a house and needs kitchen work."

"I am extremely pleased with the work done by Carriage House.  The furniture was collected from an apartment, initially to be refurnished, but after further examination it was determined that the pieces needed to be refinished.  The work was completed in the time established and was then delivered to my home.  The 2 dressers and nightstand look beautiful, I couldn't be happier.  Diane and her staff did an outstanding job - I would highly recommend Carriage House!!!

Customers say: True professional

"Everything was as we asked for. Good quality work and timely. Our house was built in the 1970's so the kitchen was boxed in with walls and small. Owner of Cornerstone took down all the walls and opened it all up in 2012 and put in an island and new floor. This year we wanted a few new countertops and backsplash. It looks very modern and open."

"Hung Lee and Jansen installed a new bathtub and surrounding walls for the tub today. They did an excellent job and I am very happy with their work. They were very professional and cleaned up the area after the work was finished. They placed a covering over my floor and carpet when they were working. The job was finished by 4:30 pm. Thank you very much for an excellent job. I am very happy with my new bathtub and would definitely hire them again in the future."

"Terrence was really great and easy to work with during our 5 month kitchen/family room remodel and construction of a new bathroom which also involved replumbing half the house. He always asked the right questions and worked hard to give the answers we were hoping to hear and resolve any issues that arose in a calm and thoughtful way. He was honest and up front with any cost implications and did great quality work for a reasonable value. Also appreciated how easy he was to get in touch with, and impressed with his reliability and that of his guys. We would highly recommend to others doing any size or type of construction project!"

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

The best budget-friendly countertop option depends on personal preference. Concrete is a great alternative to more expensive materials, as it can be cured and treated for unique designs. Another cheap material worth considering is plywood. It can be laminated or stained to suit nearly any aesthetic. Granite remnants are also a good choice.

Corian® is a popular countertop alternative to quartz. Created from an acrylic resin and natural minerals, Corian® resembles quartz and offers some similar benefits, but it comes at a cheaper price. Corian® countertops cost an average of $26 to $65 per square foot, which is less than half of what quartz countertops usually cost. The downside is that Corian® isn’t as durable as quartz, particularly regarding its resistance to scratches and high temperatures.

You most likely purchased a quartz countertop because it won't stain or etch like marble. However, etching can still happen depending on the quality of the quartz and whether it is repeatedly cleaned with harsh chemicals or exposed to acidic spills. Remember, while quartz is more resistant than natural stone, just like Superman when faced with Kryptonite, it is not indestructible.

Deciding between marble and granite for kitchen countertops depends on your personal priorities, budget, and style. Both materials have similar costs for material and installation.

Marble offers a luxurious aesthetic and timeless beauty, but it is more expensive and requires more maintenance. It is susceptible to staining and etching from acidic substances like coffee, wine, or tomato sauce if spills are not cleaned up quickly.

Granite is highly durable, heat-resistant, and easier to maintain, making it a practical choice for busy kitchens.

Both materials should be sealed to protect against damage, but they can still be vulnerable to stains if spills are left on the surface for too long.

New countertops can last for anywhere between 15 and 50 years, with the exact lifespan depending on the material:

  • Quartz: 50 to 100 years

  • Marble: 50 to 100 years

  • Granite: 50 to 100 years

  • Laminate: 15 to 20 years

  • Concrete: 20 to 30 years

  • Tile: 40 to 100 years

Keep in mind some materials are more likely to stain and chip than others, which is an important factor to consider when it comes to the longevity of your countertops. Some materials also need special cleaning and maintenance, like tile countertops, which need grout cleaning, and concrete countertops, which need resealing.
