"Tom did our property last year….the entire property, from tearing up a poorly done yard by Kay Builders and completely replacing with it new sod, to building us a wonderful stone patio with lighted block seating walls. They also provided all the landscaping, putting dozens of trees and bushes, replaced a poorly done sidewalk and made a new one out of the same stone from our patio. Tom and his crew were timely, communicated with us readily and their work was top notch….so much so that we were literally the talk of our new development. As such, I believe Tom did at least four projects in our new neighborhood as a result of the fantastic work he did with ours Fast forward to this year - two of our tress didn’t last through the winter a medium sized blue spruce and a an arborvitae…. Tom cam out yesterday and replaced them under warranty. Fantastic work, a great, great man who does exactly what he says he’s going to do. We would hire Tom and his crew in a heartbeat. Do so and you won’t be disappointed"

"We have had Artistic Treescapes replace mulch, trim trees and design and construction a new flower bed over the past few years. The crew doing the work are very conscientious and professional. We are very pleased with the work product. Prices are fair.We have had multiple favorable comments from our neighbors about their work. Our only concern is that it sometimes takes 3 or 4 phone calls or emails to even get a response from Jeff. Although this can possibly be explained this year with the shutdown, this has also happened in the past. We would definitely use Artistic Treescapes for any landscape work in the future."

"I have used Alexâ s team on multiple occasions and I have been extremely impressed with their work. Their price is more than fair. I plan on having them come back in the Spring to do some more work. I would highly recommend Adams Earth if you are looking for someone to do yard work."

"I came to know the Owner of this company because he and his family live in my neighborhood. They are hardworking, honest, dependable people. I have not needed any larger projects done, but did hire GColibri to replace a window in my home. The Owner let me know exactly what was needed to do this and the work was done properly, neatly and quickly! The Owner is very particular about the quality of the work and wants to ensure that the Client is happy. Very ethical! I have since referred GColibri to two friends for much larger projects and they were very happy with the end results! I also personally saw those projects after completion and was very impressed with the quality of their work. I will definitely call them if I need something done and will continue to refer them to my friends and family."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

It depends. Smaller, younger trees take longer to mature, but they're more resilient, their roots don't get as damaged during transplanting, and they recover faster. Plus, they're much more affordable to plant, and it's possible to DIY the planting.

On the other hand, mature trees produce fruit faster and provide more shade and privacy immediately. Ideally, a small or medium tree is the better choice if you can wait a few years for it to mature. But if you need immediate maturity, a larger tree is the only option.

Yes, rock gardens do need water. That said, they typically require less regular watering and, instead, more occasional, deep watering since the rocks trap moisture for longer than mulch. Make sure you don’t water your rock garden too much during the winter.

Yes, you can absolutely transplant bushes instead of removing them completely. The success depends on the size of the bushes, their age, and the transplanting season. Ideally, transplant during the dormant season (late fall or winter). Dig out the entire root system in one piece, fill the new hole with fresh soil and mulch, and water thoroughly after planting.

The average cost for landscaping is around $3,500, but prices can range from as low as $200 for simple DIY projects to $14,000 or more for extensive work. Several factors influence the final price, including your geographic location, yard size, project scope, chosen materials, site preparation, and the type of landscaping involved. Professional landscaper labor costs typically range from $50 to $100 per hour.

For a smaller budget, you can focus on softscaping projects like adding mulch, flowers, and shrubs, which might only cost a few hundred dollars if you do the work yourself. A budget of around $5,000 could cover projects like a simple patio, new plants and tree trimming, or a water feature. More extensive hardscaping projects, such as pergolas, patios, and walkways, can push the budget to $14,000 or more. For example, a flower bed installation averages between $800 and $3,000, while landscape lighting installation can cost from $2,000 to $6,000.

You should exercise care when deciding how to landscape over a leach field for your septic system. You typically want lightweight materials that won’t damage the drain field’s perforated pipes. When adding plants to the area, select plants with shallow roots, such as grass or flower gardens. Trees with deep roots could damage the pipes in the field.
