"Started out well. Job started earlier than originally planned which was fine. Paid a third down to start job with understanding that rest would be paid in full upon completion. Everything was going fine until near the end of the job. After shower fixtures were installed I noticed they were the wrong finish from what we agreed on for the estimate. Took a week for Joel to reorder & replace. When the frameless glass shower panel was going in, the installer realized it was the wrong size, and had to be redone. The grout on the stone shower floor was very sloppily applied. Bits of dried grit are stuck on the stones. Before job was finished Joel was asking for full payment as he was running tight of money. I insisted on paying him in full only when job was complete. He wasn't very happy. Overall, the tile shower walls & bathroom floor tile look great. I only wish there had been more attention paid to the other details."

"I received quotes from 3 contractors on the remodeling of 2 bathrooms. Each quote was well over my budget. I emailed Ron Houghton to explain my project and tell him what my budget was. He called quickly and explained that by working together we could achieve what I wanted at the price I wanted. We met soon after and made a plan that would fit my budget and that I would be happy with. I felt that he truly listened to me and offered many helpful suggestions. I was confident that he was the right person for me to hire. My top priority was to have someone in my home that I felt comfortable with and was trustworthy, as I live alone. I could not have been more pleased with my choice. Ron was professional in every way. He kept me informed, asked for my opinion, cleaned up thoroughly daily. He went out of his way to assist me; brought in garbage cans, disposed of old paint, and petted my crazy dogs. Little things matter! The crews that Ron hired to come in were also very courteous and professional. I am thrilled with my bathrooms! I am highly recommending Ron Houghton for any remodeling needs. You will not be disappointed."

Timeless Builders, your trusted partner for all your remodeling needs in Portland. With our expertise in general remodeling, we bring your vision to life. Contact us today for exceptional craftsmanship and personalized service. Additional DBA - J & R Timeless Painting. Additional email - [email protected].

"Let me start by saying, this ADU project was for my daughter, Macy. Macy has I/DD and Autism and will likely not be able to live away from us, her parents, unless she is in assisted living of some sort. However, together with her grandma we sought to create an environment for her to live as independently as possible and for her to grow into. This began our search for the perfect contractor who would understand our needs and work with us to build this ADU for Macy. Enter, Jay Bemis with Timeless Builders. After multiple meetings with contractors, many unreturned calls and emails, we met Jay. He immediately sounded interested and returned with a bid in a timely matter. We accepted this bid and began to move forward with this project. As with any construction project, we ran into unexpected situations. I could not have picked a better partner to handle all of these situations. He maintained focus on finding solutions, worked magic to make things happen that we wanted and came up with additional creative ideas when we couldn’t. He is a true craftsman and he employs the most amazing people! The pandemic hit during our project and he was respectful of our request to wear masks when entering our home. They continued the work and Jay was open about end dates and timelines. If you are looking to start a project, I can tell you that Jay Bemis and his team at Timeless Builders is who you want to partner with. Their work exceeded our expectations, their friendliness was an added bonus and the end result blew us away. Don’t think twice, contact Jay with Timeless Builders, he will help you get your project done right."

PDX Custom Woodwork is a family owned business. We have been building custom cabinets for 17 years here in Oregon. We are all about the quality of our work and making our customers happy. "PDX Custom Woodwork ruined our house and wasted our time and money. We spent $62k for them to spend 6 months demoing and painting. We didn't hear from Lina for at least 3 months of this, only the occasional text from Manuel. Even at their best, they rarely communicated with us and it was like pulling teeth to find out what amounts of materials WE had to order, including our own carpet/padding and tile cement, which is not standard. They also never visited the site or had a project manager overseeing the work being done. We had to beg them to come to the property and that still only produced a monthly visit, at best. Their workers came mainly on weekends so it's clear they were prioritizing many newer projects over ours. Ultimately, they barely completed $20k in work- of which, none of those projects were totally finished- and have done about THREE TIMES that amount in DAMAGES to our property, bringing the total to around $100-120k. They gave us half our kitchen cabinet doors three months ago then kept telling us the rest were on the way. Though all of the built-ins we hired them to redo were demolished, they never fabricated the new ones. We paid for all our flooring materials ourselves, which is not an industry standard, and they had the audacity to ruin them FOUR times. We shouldn't have given them the benefit of the doubt when they said they'd fix it. The patterned carpet was cut at an angle on every single piece and they ripped up carpet in places they shouldnt have, leaving us to buy and replace even more of it. Their "painters" got paint on multiple stained wood doors (including the front door and sidelights) that we were keeping, as well as every kitchen appliance including inside our garbage disposal, and in ALL of our brand new outlets and on the light switches. They also ripped a knob off of our oven range, dented all the doors on our new fridge, covered our kitchen chandelier and living room ceiling fan with paint and damaged our brand new fireplace that they were supposed to wrap in stone for us. They washed their brushes in our bathroom sink and left paint in rooms not being renovated. They made changes to another contractor’s city-permitted work between inspections, and without telling us even when we were on site. We had to correct them on measurements multiple times because they couldn't do it accurately themselves. This was maybe 1/4th of the work we wanted to bid from them. We wanted to be repeat customers, do bigger renovations, and go the long haul, but Lina and Manuel made it impossible. Our home has been unusable for half a year with nothing to show for it. Most of the work, including the over-sprayed paint job, will need to be redone, because it's spotty, has rough texture and the ceiling got the wall/cabinet paint on it in multiple areas. They didn't even seal our tile or countertops, which were the only things we thought they had completed, but didn't. Instead, we have to now file a complaint and hire new contractors, that know what they are doing this time, to finish the job."

FAQs for kitchen and bathroom remodel projects in Oregon City, OR

The cost of home remodeling is $50,000 for the average homeowner. However, this cost can range anywhere from $3,000 for a small project to $170,000 for a whole home remodel. Factors like project size, location, and room type all affect your overall cost. For example, bedroom remodeling costs are one of the least expensive projects, costing about $1,500 to $5,500 per bedroom. However, a kitchen remodel has a significant cost range, totaling anywhere from $14,500 to over $70,000.

Yes, most states require home remodeling contractors to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed home remodeling contractor could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.

As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:

  • The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check

  • Required to have applicable state and local licenses

  • Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review

  • Paying to advertise their services

  • Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi

Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.

The best time of year to remodel your home is late winter and early spring when fewer homeowners are thinking about projects and pros are more available. Also consider the type of remodel you want and plan ahead as much as possible. For example, the summer is a great time of year to update your fireplace, but winter is a better option for fixing foundations and building room additions.

There are a few things you can do to prepare for a home remodeling project to ensure a smooth construction process. Creating a detailed budget can help you stay on track, especially with the excitement of new construction or upgrades. It’s also beneficial to map out a remodeling timeline with your contractor to have clear expectations. In addition, you’ll want to prepare the space that will be worked on ahead of time—this could be tarping furniture or entirely removing belongings from the room.

Home renovation insurance, sometimes called “dwelling under renovation coverage” or “builder’s risk insurance,” helps financially cover any damages that occur during the home renovation process. While different from typical homeowners insurance, many homeowners insurance policies already include some sort of home renovation insurance or offer it as an additional add-on. While this insurance isn’t necessary for every home remodeling project, it’s best to contact your insurance company to verify if it’s needed and what your coverage options are.
