"We had an excellent experience with Miguel and his team at Sherpa! From the design and estimate process to the project work and the final product, we were beyond pleased. It is an amazing transformation of our space, and we would happily recommend Miguel and Sherpa Landscape Construction. The attention to detail and finished product is stunning! They maintained a clean jobsite and left our property spotless after their work was complete. If I could give 6 stars I would!"

"David Torres and his work associates are very kind , courteous and respectful and do not waste anytime, they stay focused on their work and do an excellent job. David made sure that I was totally informed on the cost and also went to home Depot with me to pick out a deck paint color. David purchased a treated wood board and held it for me while I painted it different colors until I was satisfied with the right color, David is so patient, and thank you so much Angie I had no idea who I could depend on for jobs I needed done at my house that is why it took me so long to get the work on the deck completed.I am very comfortable with contacting Angie with future home projects, Thank you agian Angie!! I'll rate your service with Trillions of stars and more!! Sincerely Yours, Bobbie Jean Ford."

Patios questions, answered by experts

The cost of winterizing a screened porch can vary depending on the chosen method and the extent of the modifications required. Simple options like installing vinyl panels or using vinyl sheeting tend to be more affordable, while creating a four season room can involve higher costs due to renovation expenses. It's best to consult with professionals or obtain multiple quotes to get an accurate estimate for your specific project.

Yes, it can be worth screening a porch if you live in an area with beautiful weather, since it allows you to enjoy your outdoor space longer in the spring and summer. The additional protected space may even attract more prospective buyers if you intend to sell—especially if you add seasonal features, like a ceiling fan for summer or a heater to winterize your screened porch.

A screened-in porch can add value to your home, but it won’t count toward the total square footage at an appraisal or when it comes time to sell. A screened-in porch is not fully enclosed, usable year-round, insulated, or heated or cooled, so it doesn’t meet the requirements of livable square footage in most locations.

Your maintenance needs revolve around the type of foundation you choose, as well as how you furnish or decorate it. Patios require little else other than the occasional hose-down, but decks and other wooden structures will require annual power washing and sealing. You may also need to restain the wood every two to three years.

Adding a solid roof rather than building a pergola or leaving the space open will make maintenance much easier. Without a roof, you will need to spend more time sweeping, washing, and covering your furniture to protect it from UV bleaching.

The least expensive way to enclose a porch is with screens. These protect the room by preventing insects from entering and, if you live in a warm climate, provide excellent airflow during hot summer months. Screens cost far less than any other alternative, so if you are against getting permits, spending too much, or enclosing your porch in walls or glass, screens are the best choice.
