"We hired A&E construction and painting to put on a new roof, paint our entire home exterior, and install new gutters. Their bids were significantly lower than all others and they worked with us on our timeline. They were respectful of our budget and didn’t push us to do more than was necessary. We upgraded the vents in our roof for a very reasonable price. The neighbors stopped by frequently to comment on how wonderful it looks! I’m now hiring them for some inside work. I trust them to do quality work at reasonable prices. I highly recommend A&E !!!"

"Cameron and his “Renew Crew”, were amazing. We had to reschedule due to high winds and heavy rains, but as soon as the weather cooperated the Renew Crew was here! Great communication. The roofing was removed and a new roof was installed. 🌧️ I asked for a piece of roof to be cut-back, no problem. They went above and beyond my expectations. Their Bid was honest, came in under budget. Renewed is professional, respectful, considerate and has great communication. I highly recommend Renewed Exteriors! ✨"

"What a great experience! We learned so much about our roof from Casey. He was very helpful and took the time to show us details that other companies didn’t. The financing options were also great; we ended up taking advantage of the 0% plan which we had no idea was even an option. We definitely recommend Roof Pros."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

The best way to check if a roofing company is legit is by asking the roofer for their license number. They should have no issue providing you with this information if they’re legitimate. You can also look to see if they have an online presence, read reviews, and ask contractors you’ve worked with before if they know the roofing company.

You can put new shingles over old shingles, but most municipalities only allow for two layers of shingles before you have to rip off the old roof and start fresh. In some areas, only a single layer of shingles is allowed due to the weight a bundle of shingles adds to your structure. In most cases, it’s a good idea to remove your old shingles before you install new shingles, especially if you suspect that a roof leak may have compromised the decking underneath.

A gable roof with steep pitches covered in asphalt shingles or wood shakes is the most popular roof for Cape Cod homes. Asphalt shingles started gaining popularity in the early 1900s, so wood shake roofs, which were popular in the 1700s when Cape Cod homes were first built, are the traditional option. You can further modernize your Cape Cod home by raising the roof in the front, back, or both to add living space and change up the traditional single-gable roof with doghouse dormers.

In most cases, installing solar panels will not void your roof warranty. To keep roof warranties intact, check your written warranty or call the manufacturer to ask about clauses regarding roof penetrations. You can also protect yourself by getting written approval or a modified warranty that specifically allows the solar installation type you’re planning. Then, hire a professional solar installer that follows roofing manufacturer instructions and protects the roof during installation.

As with any roofing material, there are benefits and drawbacks to consider before installing roll roofing. On the plus side, roll roofing is budget-friendly, lightweight, and comparatively easy to install. It is also ideal for low-sloped roofs and lasts around 10 years. The cons of roll roofing, however, include its low durability compared to roofing materials, restricted color choices, and low ROI.

Pros:

  • Low-cost

  • Lightweight

  • Cut to size

  • Easy and quick installation

  • Designed for low-sloped roofs

  • Waterproofs your roof for an average of 10 years

  • Easy to purchase and transport

Cons:

  • Less durable than asphalt shingles

  • More prone to cracks and tears

  • Short life span

  • Not as many color or style choices

  • Not as aesthetically pleasing as shingles, wood, or clay tiles

  • Not preferred for a higher home resale value
