"My house is 120+ years old, and the extension (added at some point in the distant past) has been lower than the main house ever since I bought it. In the past few years, the wall between the main house and the extension had sunk noticeably, and I assumed it was the foundation. I work in the trades and therefore knew that if I wanted the addition to be level with the rest of the house, the only solution would be to rebuild it, which I don't have the time or money to do. So my main concern was making sure the foundation was stabilized. If it could be raised at all that would be great, but I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't going to collapse. The sales person RamJack sent was either not well trained, or their training leaves a lot to be desired. He was young, so perhaps not very experienced. He explained that he was going to determine just how much my foundation had sunk, and proceeded to do so. But really, that wasn't a concern for me. The fact that my house is not level is a given, I don't need to be told how much it is off level. I was more interested in knowing what the company could do for me. After he did his routine, he went out to his car for a very long time (30 minutes?) to generate a report for me. When he finally came back, he told me how much it would cost and then left. I had already contacted another company to come by and evaluate my foundation. When their salesperson showed up, I was expecting the same routine. However, he sat me down and asked me the very important question: what is it that you are hoping to achieve here? We then talked for at least 20 more minutes before he crawled under my house to assess the situation. Then he sat with me while he generated a quote. Talk about a difference in customer service! I never bothered calling RamJack back."

"I have had two issues since they installed the new sump pump and irrigation. Issue number one was water still getting passed the new concrete. The other issue is that the new concrete was not level at all which has caused issues with the new flooring I installed. However, their customer service is top notch and will work hard to take care of you."

"I was very impressed with Sentri Homes - their customer service was excellent. They sent a subcontractor to install some vinyl laminate in my bathroom and he ended up getting glue all over the carpet in our bedroom. The sub ended up ghosting both me and Sentri, leaving me stuck with a ruined carpet. Sentri stuck with me for over a month to get the carpet replaced with the identical original and to get the vinyl job 100% completed. The carpet was a Home Depot exclusive and Sentri handled everything with them. I will be using Sentri for a much bigger renovation I have coming up soon, because I know that they will make sure everything gets done right no matter what problems come up. The vinyl looks great too."

"Great overall experience. Ethan worked with us to find a siding and gutter solution that worked, and responded to all out questions in a timely manner. Very happy with the final product, the exterior of the house looks beautiful and modern and not 1970's anymore."

"Sometimes you come across a good company like NW Builders & Renovation and it restores your faith in humanity. They replaced my Uncles roof and repainted the house. They worked with his insurance company to get everything covered. The process took some time but it was definitely worth it! NW Builders & Renovation are true professionals and an absolute pleasure to work with. If you've seen my reviews from around the world you know we expect a lot from companies and these guys deliver on all levels! Highly recommended!"

House Leveling questions, answered by experts

Address drainage issues, avoid heavy loads, and seal cracks to prevent future settling.

Most houses are expected to settle over time, but foundation sinking of more than a few inches or uneven sinking of more than an inch for every 20 feet is cause for concern. Any significant or uneven sinking should be assessed by a professional to determine the cause and perform any necessary repairs.

Concrete leveling is absolutely worth it if you have sunken concrete slabs and want to restore them to level, especially if the slab is part of your home foundation. Concrete leveling is less than half the price of replacing concrete sidewalks, patios, walkways, and pool decks, and it’s about a quarter of the cost of replacing a foundation. If you also treat the underlying problem, it can be a worthwhile and permanent solution.

Mudjacking restores level surfaces, prevents further damage, and is more cost-effective than a full replacement.

Generally speaking, push piers—or steel piers—are the best option for underpinning, as they reach down to solid bedrock to find support for your foundation rather than relying on soil, which could be subject to the same issues as the soil directly below your foundation. However, the best underpinning method for your home depends on your location, how far down the bedrock is, and the type of soil in your area. Helical piers are usually the best option for sandy soil or in areas where the bedrock is too deep to use steel piers.
