"Overall Bernard Painting Inc. did a very, very nice job painting the exterior of our house, however the follow through was not very good.  Less than 6 months after the house was painted, we noticed some bubbling on the south side of the house.  
The house was professionally stripped to bare wood prior to painting.  When the house was ready, Bernard Painting came back and primed, prepped and painted the house with high quality paint in our three chosen colors. This was October of 2010.  
In January of 2011, we first noticed the first bubbles.  Bernard Painting came out and looked at them and was not sure why this was happening.They said that everything was done right, by the book.  In corresponding with them by email,  they suggested some solutions and times to come and try to fix the problem.  The times they suggested were not conducive to painting a house, it was wet weather and cold winter temperatures. We had a three year guarantee on the work, so we thought we had time to find the right opportunity, schedule and weather permitting.  In May 2013 they sent out a crew of two to power wash the problem areas to get them clean.  The crew couldn?t tell me when they were coming back to complete the repair.  They said we would be contacted when the repairs would happen.  That never happened, we never heard from them, and that was very frustrating.  When the crew had came out to power wash, they told me that they don?t paint old houses anymore and don?t come to the east side of Portland.  This was never told to us at any point in in the original process.  
In the prep stage, they used Bondo, (car type Bondo) for wood and nail hole fill.  I was told a fairly usual practice in exterior painting.  In some areas the Bondo did not adhere well and is detaching from the wood and the only thing that?s holding it to the house is the paint.  We used a high quality paint on the exterior, but after two years it had faded very dramatically!!  In most of the Bondo areas the paint has totally vanished to reveal the Bondo (Pink Bondo color) underneath.  According to the painter, the Bondo was to become just like the wood, solid and we would never have to mess with it again.
The workmanship that the crew did was very good, if not excellent, nice crisp lines between the three colors we used for body, trim and accent.  Aesthetically it is very beautiful.  (except that the paint has faded so badly).  The crews were excellent, always on time, friendly, cleaned up after themselves and stayed late to finish their work.  
They did a very nice job in getting the house to look nice, but when the bubbling paint started happening, management dropped the ball. They just didn?t show enough timely interest in helping us correct the problems with the paint bubbles.  The timing of their proposed fix dates was not acceptable because at those times the weather was either too cold, wet and not the right time of year to be doing exterior paint repairs.  
If they would come back and really show interest in completing our repairs in a timely manner, paying attention to the correct time of year and weather, we would welcome them to fix the problem areas.  This would have been a perfect job if Brad would have followed through with his warranty work.
