"I highly, highly, highly recommend Valley Roofing & Exteriors to you!! You could not ask for a better company. From start to finish, they were wonderful. They gave me an inspection, provided pictures, and confirmed that I needed a new roof as I had suspected. Having pictures to view though was extremely helpful, as well as an explanation of what was wrong. They then scheduled the work, immediately after a contract was signed and payment was given for half of the work, and completed my new roof in 4 days! It looks beautiful and the Valley Roofing crew work HARDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!! VERY, VERY HARD. You will not be disappointed. The price was reasonable, and they offer a lifetime guarantee on their work, and also explained to me the warranty provided by Malarkey who manufacture the shingles. I worked with their project manager, Joe Johnson. He is wonderful. Very friendly, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. I really, really recommend them to you. The best way to remove snow from driveways is to use a two- or three-stage snow blower, which has the power to clear snow in a matter of minutes. Don’t forget to consider helpful options, such as a snow thrower, wheelbarrow plow, leaf blower, and hiring a professional snow removal company to clear off your driveway.

Heavy amounts of snow could be a problem. In many climates, lots of snow on your rooftop can lead to freeze-thaw cycle that create ice dams, which can damage rooftops. But if you’re using shingle clips, this snow poses an additional problem: As it melts and freezes, it can easily dislodge clips you’ve placed on your roof.

You can clean snow off your roof after a fresh snowfall while it’s still lightweight, but brushing off snow can also dislodge your clips. If you get a lot of snow, then roof clips become less viable.

Some commercial services use sand when clearing ice, but that’s to add instant traction, not to melt the ice. While you can scatter kitty litter, sand, or similar substances on steps, paths, or porches to improve safety during icy conditions, they won’t help melt hardened ice. Rely on salt or other de-icing methods to fully melt away stubborn ice.

If you’re struggling to find anything else suitable in your cupboards, a vinegar and water ice melt makes for a passable quick fix. Just don’t expect it to clear your concrete the way commercial products or rock salt will. Mix equal parts vinegar and warm water and squeegee away the watery slush to prevent more slippery surfaces from forming.

While it is possible to remove snow from your roof without a professional, we don’t recommend it. Accessing your roof can be a dangerous task; pair that with slippery ice and snow that can be heavy to move, and you have a very risky problem on your hands. This dangerous situation becomes more high-risk when there’s a snowstorm or your roof has a steep pitch.
