"What a great experience it was to work with Chip and Dale Ironworks. I wanted a custom gate that reflected where I live. Randy was my first contact. He listened to my request and came up with a design I love. Once I made a decision, then it took a week to make and a day to install. I appreciate the high quality work that went into fabrication, parts used, and the installation of this gate. The next day, Jim ran the needed tests, checked the operation of the system, and explained how to operate the gate including any challenges that might arise. I am receiving many compliments for this gate from my neighbors and passerby’s. The operation is super quiet and smooth. I appreciate the talent and knowledge that went into the making of this gate and the fact that I received a custom gate for a fraction of the estimated costs other companies quoted for a plain gate. This company takes pride in their workmanship and it shows!"

"Hire these guys! The quality of the work is stellar , I don't say that lightly being a tradesman myself. Eddie is always on top of it, and addresses concerns right away. They are timely, and you don't feel like you have to worry when you see the care and craftsmanship in their work. I have hired other contractors who left me feeling I got duped. Casa Bella is my go to, choose this company, you won't regret it. Also if you have an idea Eddie will work with you to make it happen, That is rare."

Small jobs welcome

"Excellent experience with Braden from Black Bear Fabrication. We needed a window well grate modified for a new vent hood, so the grate would fit back in place. He was quick to respond, great communication prior to beginning the job. On the day he arrived exactly on time and ready to go. He was completely prepared, took a few measurements, and got to work. His workmanship is outstanding, he did a PERFECT job for us. I will recommend him to anyone that needs mobile welding and fabrication. He is a gentleman, and a high-level craftsman. Thank you Braden!"

Welding questions, answered by experts

Welding is the process of using extreme heat—and, sometimes, pressure—to attach two pieces of metal. In contrast, metal fabrication is a more involved process that can include welding, sheet metal work, bending, and other forms of metal manipulation. Metal fabrication is a large-scale project that may or may not involve welding, while welding is more often a step in larger fabrication projects.

The cost to weld aluminum averages about $14 to $22 per pound. The type of metal factors into the overall cost of any welding project due to the cost of the materials and the expertise required to work with it. Some of the most common metals used by welders include:

  • Magnesium alloy: $7–$16 per pound

  • Low-carbon steel: $11–$12 per pound

  • Stainless steel: $13–$15 per pound

  • Copper/brass: $24–$29 per pound

  • Cast iron: $38–$79 per pound

  • Titanium: $60–$85 per pound

The average cost for a welding project is about $300, with typical costs ranging from $125 to $490. However, prices can be as low as $125 for very small jobs or exceed $1,200 for large or complex projects. Welders typically charge an hourly rate between $65 and $150, depending on their experience, and many charge a minimum fee to cover overhead and travel expenses. The total cost is influenced by several factors, including labor, the cost of materials like metal rods and shielding gas, the type of metal being welded, the project's size and complexity, and your geographic location. For a precise quote, it's best to ask a local welder for an estimate based on your specific project.

Cutting rectangular ductwork requires careful measurements and the right technique. Use a measuring tape and pencil to mark the cutting lines accurately. Tin snips are excellent for straight cuts on smaller ducts. For more extensive or thicker rectangular ducts, a reciprocating saw with a metal-cutting blade is effective.

Ensure the duct is well-supported and secure while cutting to prevent wobbling and maintain precision. After cutting, use a metal file to smooth any sharp edges, ensuring safety during installation.

Yes, but you’ll need reliable steel-cutting tools and safety gear to get started. Shipping containers are typically around ¾ inch thick, so it’s entirely possible to cut through them, but experience and the right equipment are very important. When possible, try to get a container as close to the size you want it as possible.
