"Other than that, I was happy with them. American Home Shield recommended Destiny Air of Alvin, TX. I was happy with them until now. In July, the 10 month old air conditioner, dehumidifier did not work. Someone came out on July 6th and supposedly fixed it. I was gone until coming home the end of July and the humidity upstairs was the same. Someone came out on August 8th and repaired it as of today, it is drier upstairs. In the meanwhile, black mold came through the air ducts. Someone is supposed to come out on August 29th in the morning to take care of this. Today is the 25th, I have been calling them up to seven times a day with no response. The downstairs AC is 3 years old. Coming home on the 19th after a lovely trip- that AC did not work. It took 6 days for a service man to come out. He was 2 hours late, discovered something had to be replaced and it had to be ordered. It should take 2-3 days. Today, is 6 days later and nobody has called me back. I'm sitting here in the heat, can't really live upstairs because of the black mold. I'm at a loss for what to do."

The man said it wouldn’t be worth it to put in such a small amount of insulation so I basically just got a consultation. He was really nice about the whole thing. "They came out and helped me decide what weatherization steps would get me the most results for my limited budget. Very pleasant to deal with. I was especially interested in getting the crawl space under my kitchen bump out to be fitted with better insulation as the kitchen floor was unbearably cold in the winter. It was a yucky job for them, getting under there, but they did it. The floor was somewhat warmer this winter, but not so much warmer that I could go in there barefoot before April. I guess that's why we have slippers. In any case, RSU did a fine job."

The radiant barrier reflects the heat entering the attic back upward, keeping your home’s temperature more consistent.
The amount and type of insulation your home needs depends on your location, climate, and the specific installation area (attic, walls, or floors). Your local building code will typically determine the minimum required R-value. For specific recommendations, Energy Star suggests the following R-values: homes in the Southern U.S. should have R30 to R60 in attics and R13 to R25 in floors and walls; homes in moderate climates need R38 to R60 in attics and R25 to R30 in floors and walls; and homes in northern states require R49 to R60 in attics and R25 to R30 in floors and walls.
These two types of foams are similar chemically, but they are applied in a much different way and each has its own pros and cons. Spray foam can only be used if the area where you will be installing the installation is wide open and easy to access. Injection foam should be used where it's cost-prohibitive to remove the walls that are placed over the insulation. Spray foam is a much less expensive process and requires less expertise.
A garage ceiling needs a vapor barrier if it’s a heated garage or if you’re installing insulation in the ceiling. Without a vapor barrier, you risk moisture issues and mold growth. If you have an unheated garage and don’t plan on installing insulation that could get wet and harbor mold, the ceiling doesn't need a vapor barrier.
