Small jobs welcome

"Anthony Smith, president and founder, is an amazing representative of landscaping services! He arrived to my home promptly and spend over an hour with me going through my large property. He asked me questions to find out what I was looking for and then provided me with detailed information on all my plants and shrubs/grass. He is very knowledgeable, professional and friendly. His crew showed up for work promptly and completed the job(s) quickly and efficiently.  I highly recommend using Greensmith- prices are competitive. I love the professionalism of the staff.

"Great to work with! The crew came with many skill sets to accomplish a complete front and backyard landscape design project with sod, irrigation, flagstone fire pit area, and landscape lighting. The plants and trees provided were a good variety, healthy, and a great value given the size of the trees. Hope to work with them again on future projects."

"The work was done while I was away. The neighbors who abutted the property both reached out to tell me how polite and professional the team was. The work was done right on time. They left the site in better shape than they found it. I would definitely hire them again."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

Many people have used old tires in gardens as raised beds, planters, tree rings, and DIY decor. However, these uses are not recommended due to the toxicity of many of the chemicals used to manufacture tires. These chemicals can leach into the soil and water as the tire breaks down, creating environmental pollution and health hazards for gardeners and their families.

Finding a reputable greenhouse or nursery should start online, where you can read through customer reviews to gauge the quality of the plants sold and the customer experience. Look out for customers complaining about plants dying shortly after purchase, and try to choose a greenhouse known for hiring employees who are able to explain how to care for the plants you purchase. It’s also a good idea to head to a few greenhouses to see the selection they offer and make sure they carry the plants or trees you’re looking for.

Hedge plants are available in almost every size, from seedlings to fully mature, six-foot-tall shrubs. Planting smaller plants is much easier and more cost-effective. However, it can take years for the plants to reach maturity and create a full hedge. Garden centers and specialty retailers sometimes offer three to four-foot wide plants that you can simply plant next to each other for an instant full hedge.

The primary disadvantages of xeriscaping are the high upfront cost and the significant labor required to establish it. A xeriscaping project can cost between $3,000 and $24,000 on average. Additionally, the resulting landscape will have less of a traditional green appearance, which may not appeal to everyone's personal taste and could potentially narrow your pool of buyers if you decide to sell your home. However, despite these initial drawbacks, the long-term benefits include saving water, time, and money on lawn maintenance.

Grass is the most popular and safest option for planting over a septic drain field, but you can also plant small flowering plants and other lightweight plants that don’t have woody or deep roots. Avoid trees and bushes within 10 feet of the field, as the woody roots can crack the perforated pipes. You should also avoid planting vegetable or fruit gardens over your drain field, as a leak from the pipes could contaminate the soil and put anyone who eats the produce at risk.
