"I am happy with the plumbing work which D & F Plumbing accomplished in the laundry drain area of my home. In advance of the work, Aaron explained in detail what would be done, as well as pointing out other areas of plumbing concern in the basement. On the day of the work, Aaron and Grant worked diligently from the basement corner, through the crawl space, and up to the roof. The Liberty Automatic Drain Pump is state of the art and all the new pipes look great. It is a huge improvement over the old sump-pump-in-a-trash-barrel set-up which was there before. Thanks!"

"I highly recommend NW Sundance. Setting up the appointment was easy, they called 30 minutes before they showed up to let me know they were coming like promised, arrived on time, and quoted me the repair price all in a very effortless matter. The plumber Jorge was a great guy. Very professional, outgoing and efficient. He even cleaned up his mess when he was done, not leaving a trace behind that he was even there, except for new pipes and the garbage disposal he just installed for me. Even disposed of the old unit for me, without even asking. I am very impressed with these guys and will use them again if the need arises."

"On time arrival, that's huge. They did a look-see in the morning and the underground storm drain pipe repair job I needed done was simple enough that they were able to fit me into their schedule that same day. They did an amazing job on the pipe repair and even filled in the hole when they were done. I had already done the digging and had tried to do the repair myself. Big mistake. Call AXIOM and get it done right the first time! I was so impressed that I gave their business card to our HOA president to give to any of our neighbors that are having similar issues with their storm drain pipes. The houses in our neighborhood have areas of obvious quick, cheap, shoddy and out-of-code (I looked it up!) workmanship and materials and the City of Tigard is ridiculously inept if not downright corrupt regarding construction inspections, observed during a recent inspection after the replacement of my forced air gas furnace (original was cheap and NOT installed to code), but that's another story. Some are starting to have similar issues with their storm drain pipes and it's only a matter of time for others."

"We strongly recommend Henco Plumbing Services. Henco provided a full-service, inside and out, plumbing overhaul of our older home here in Vancouver. They completed drain and water repiping (including some related items—installing a heat pump hot water heater, dishwasher, faucets, etc.), ran a new water main line to the street, and replaced the sewer line from the house to the city service. From the time they came to walk through the project plans with us in preparation for preparing their bid all the way through to the completion of the lengthy (and not without surprises) project--this team was friendly, professional, hard-working, and knew their business. Since we knew this was a major investment and shouldn’t be taken lightly, we engaged with a variety of companies recommended through various methods including Angie’s List, neighbors & friends, etc. We asked each group to come to the house, walk through our goals, offer suggestions and value-added input based on their experience, and help us develop the final project plan and scope. Some companies said they’d come to the house and never showed. Other companies came out, promised to deliver a quote, and even after follow-up never did. But there were a few good companies that did respond. It came down to two top contenders and after follow up questions we chose Henco. We knew this would be daunting and that we’d have lots of questions before and during the work, but the Henco team offered good advice, gave good answers to the multitude of questions, showed quality problem-solving skills especially when it came to the surprises we encountered, and even came back for follow-up tweaks once the major work was done with no fuss. It bears mentioning here, also, that not only did they do a super job with all the plumbing services--the service people that worked in our home were very respectful of our home, coordinated closely with us because we had pets in the home, made sure we had water services available as much as possible to minimize inconvenience, and diligently cleaned up after themselves each day. They were conscientious and really surprised us with their can-do attitudes. Their pricing was comparable and/or competitive depending on the part of the scope being discussed. I say the pricing is "good" and is a "B" rating because it would take something really over the top to receive an "A" "excellent" rating from me. We have recommended them already to friends and would use them again if we ever needed to, but we’re hoping that won’t be for a long time. :-)"

Small jobs welcome

"Let me tell you that Bluefrog completed a wonderful job. I needed a new hot water heater. Within minutes from when I called for a referral, they reached out and called me, scheduled to come out to provide a good estimated price and came out the same day. And within a couple of days, they installed the new water heater, and they did the whole job, in just one day; also at an affordable price. I find them very competent, professional and they were able to answer all of my questions. I definitely will add them to my portfolio of vendors, and call them on a yearly basis. Thank you so much!"

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

The difference between an ejector pump and a sump pump lies in their purpose and design—an ejector pump functions to remove liquid gray water and soft solid sewage waste from your home. If you have a laundry room or bathroom in your basement, an ejector pump for your sewage tank prevents sewage from backing up in your washing machine or bathroom’s drains.

A sump pump is designed to remove excess groundwater that may enter your home, either due to flooding or periods of heavy rain.

A sump pump can be plugged into a regular, 110-volt outlet with three-prong openings, but it must have GFCI protections per the NEC, meaning you’ll need a GFCI outlet and circuit. Sump pumps require two outlet openings, one for the plug to the motor and one for the float switch.

To test for toilet leaks, use water coloring in the water tank and see if the water slips into the bowl from the tank. This test will indicate if there’s a problem with the flapper or refill tube. You can also put water coloring in the bowl of the toilet to see if there is a leak there. If there is, you should see the colored water on the outside of the toilet bowl or on the floor.

Sewer ejector pumps need to be cleaned at least once a year by a professional. You shouldn’t attempt to clean it yourself because it can release sewer gasses that are toxic to humans and can be fatal. But to keep the system as clean as possible between professional inspection and cleaning services, be sure to only flush human waste and toilet paper. Avoid flushing items that can clog the system, like paper towels, grease, oil, or menstruation products.

Yes, it’s possible to install a sewage ejector pump outside rather than in a basement. However, there may be some extra steps involved, including running pipes from the inside to the outside of your home and digging (and re-filling) a hole for the basin. If you aren’t comfortable with this type of work, contact a plumbing pro to handle it for you.
