"This project went beautifully from the beginning. Crystal at Pacific NW came out with Steve from Spectrum Homes to look at  the kitchen. They listened really well and it was clear that they understood old homes and had worked on projects for small kitchens before. We had gotten a design from another contractor earlier and that experience was very different. He had been building large, new homes until the recession hit and it was obvious that he didn't understand what I was looking for at all. Crystal asked all the right questions and seemed to really understand our style and what we wanted to do. This was a challenge because we wanted to stay within the same footprint -  no knocking out walls to gain more space. When we went to the showroom to see the design, we were so impressed. It really was perfect. In addition to creating a very functional, beautiful design, Crystal was very helpful with guiding us through our choices for counters, backsplash, and floor. She helped us tie it all together. We wanted to upgrade, but still keep the cottage look that makes our small house charming; we didn't want the kitchen to stick out like a sore thumb. It turned out beautifully. It suits us and the house.
Steve and his crew from Spectrum Homes, did the work of taking out the old kitchen and building the new, which was not an easy job. There were 3 layers of linoleum on the floor and a number of other challenges that come with an old home. Steve was wonderful to work with. He laid out the schedule so we knew exactly what would happen when. And he kept all the subcontractors to the schedule. There were no surprises. When anything came up, he talked to us and explained what was happening or what needed to be decided. The project took three weeks and was done on schedule. We lived in our house during the remodel. Steve and his subcontractors cleaned up after themselves very well each day and were very respectful of our living space.
We had new plumbing installed, new cabinets, granite countertops, a stainless steel sink, tile backsplash behind the sink and behind the stove, a new tall, narrow refrigerator that made the whole design possible, microwave/vent over the new stove and a new peninsula. Where the peninsula is they were able to replace the huge old vent opening with a small toe kick vent, which allowed us to put in a peninsula that had cabinets for storage space. Our old peninsula had no storage because the vent took up so much space. So although we took out three drawers to make space for a small dishwasher, we gained it back and more with the peninsula design. Brilliant! This was something we didn't know would be possible.
The work was done exceptionally well, both the construction and the cabinets. My brother-in-law is a contractor and when he visited, he was really impressed with the quality of the work. A contractor who was in to bid for a waterproofing project in the basement saw our kitchen and commented on how well it was done. The people at Spectrum Homes and Pacific NW Cabinetry really care about their work and it shows in every detail. Our kitchen is beautiful and so much more functional than it was before the remodel. We spend a great deal of time in the kitchen, cooking most of our meals at home and we absolutely love it! It has absolutely upgraded the quality of our lives.
This was an expensive project because of the amount of work that needed to be done and it was worth every penny. The quality of the work and the ease of working with Crystal and Steve made this worth far more than what we paid. Our new kitchen is fantastic and even after a year of using it every day, we could not be more pleased.

I initially contacted MS Railing through Angie's List and Serge was quick to respond. Because Serge needed more details we continued to communicate through texting so I could send him pics of the studs in the wall so he would know it would hold the heavy glass door. I was told (by several glass companies) that they wouldn't come out to measure until the tile was installed. However, Serge did give me a rough estm via text just so we'd have an idea of the cost. As soon as the tile was installed I texted Serge about coming out to measure to give us a solid quote. He came out the very next day and was punctual! We also got other estm for the glass from companies off of AL as well. What set MS Railing apart from the rest was the respect that Serge gave by taking off his shoes when he came into our house, MS Railing also had the lowest price and the quickest install turn around time (a week and a couple of days) compared to the other estms we received (3 weeks). The actual estm Serge gave us before he left was even lower than his rough estm he sent me via text! Since we were still waiting on a company to send us their quote, just to make sure, so we waited to let Serge know we wanted to go with his company to install the glass. When we finally got the other quote it was much higher so, I texted Serge to let him know (that was on a Fri evening), I was concerned maybe we should've waited until Mon morning to tell him. However, he did respond right away even though it was after hours. That following Tues I texted Serge to see about our order. I didn't need to worry b/c Serge had remembered and in fact on Weds he texted me to say the glass was ready!! They also had available an apt for 10 am apt spot the next day or I'd have to wait until the following Mon. I chose the 10 am appt.! The guys showed up on time, installed the glass within the hour and cleaned up! We have not used the shower yet as we are still adding some new fixtures and all to the bathroom but we love the look of the doors! We did pay extra for the glass stain protection that was applied to the glass before it was installed. The protection last 5 yrs and the price that was quoted was well below the other companies and worth the extra cost to us. A clear "plastic" strip was attached to the bottom of the shower door to help keep any water from coming out. I was told we could take it off but you can't really even see it plus it's nice to have the extra protection against any potential water that may get splashed onto the door and out onto the floor. Again we are super happy with the service that MS Railing provided and the glass looks wonderful!
