Green Ridge Solar is Oregon's top solar installation company with a small-business touch. From start to finish, Green Ridge Solar is committed to providing consistent communication and education to each and every customer, no matter the size of the solar project. We use top-tier solar panel technology that is proven for Oregon's climate, and we hire Oregonians who have an intimate knowledge of Oregon's construction laws and available financial incentives. We are proud to be Oregon's local source for solar energy, and we plan on being a part of the Oregon community long into the future. That's our commitment to our community and our customers. We do all this to make your path to solar headache-free and a financial no-brainer.

"We had a large solar system installed a year ago by a local solar company. After a year the system melted down due to some faulty wiring. It took a month before the system was functional again, but our battery was also taken out in the melt down. We were told it would take a few weeks to get the paperwork through the system to warranty out our battery. After waiting three months we decided to contact Green Ridge Solar to see if they could help with our problem. To say they were life savers is an understatement. They answered the phone immediately, understood the problem and sent out a very experienced electrician in a very timely manner. They were able to warranty out our existing battery and we decided to order an additional battery through their company. The new battery was only half the cost from the first one that was installed by the original company. They were fast, friendly and professional. I would hire them again in a heart beat."

Residential Solar Experts! We specialize in multiple different systems so we can design the best fit for your needs. We install Enphase mico-inverter systems, Sol-Ark off-grid systems and we are also a certified Generac PWRcell solar dealer. We promote local companies and products including Silfab solar panels manufactured in Washington, Sunmodo mounting equipment based out of Vancouver Washington, and Hyundai solar panels manufactured in Hillsboro Oregon.

"I had an emergency situation at my home where we partially lost power, and Unity went above and beyond in every respect! 1. They were able to send someone out the same day, and quoted me a $299 base fee. Every other electrician I called either said they were at least a week out, or had an emergency fee of $500 or more. 2. The electrician who came was SUPER friendly and helpful. 3. He quickly diagnosed and fixed the problem (it turned out to be relatively simple). 4. He then refused to accept even a partial payment, since the fix was so simple, and he was already in the neighborhood on another job. I will DEFINITELY call Unity again next time I need an electrician. Thank you!!!"

Solar Panels questions, answered by experts

The time it takes to install solar panels depends on the number of panels and the size of your home, but installation takes between two and three days of work. While most contractors can install the panels over the course of a couple of days, switching to solar energy can take two to three months in total. This includes the time it takes to design the system, procure the parts, obtain the permits, install the panels, connect to the main power grid, and get an inspection.

In most cases, installing solar panels will not void your roof warranty. To keep roof warranties intact, check your written warranty or call the manufacturer to ask about clauses regarding roof penetrations. You can also protect yourself by getting written approval or a modified warranty that specifically allows the solar installation type you’re planning. Then, hire a professional solar installer that follows roofing manufacturer instructions and protects the roof during installation.

The best solar panels to withstand hail are those rated UL 61730. These solar panels are certified to withstand hailstones up to 3 inches in diameter and travel at speeds up to 88 mph. IP68 solar panels are the next most resilient solar panel. Solar panels without these ratings can handle hail up to 1 inch in diameter that travels up to 50 miles per hour. If you live in an area with frequent or severe hailstorms, purchasing UL 61730 solar panels is often worth the investment.

The average homeowner needs around 22 solar panels, but the exact number depends on your monthly energy consumption. Your solar professional should size your array to offset your consumption, meaning you’ll need fewer panels if you use below-average amounts of electricity, or more than 22 if you use above-average amounts of electricity. The number of panels also depends on the output of each panel. The average is around 400 watts, but you might need more panels if you install less capable equipment. Since there are so many variables, you should have a professional size your system.

There are a few great questions to ask a solar contractor or inspector when you speak to them. You’ll probably want to find out about the energy yield and efficiency of your array, ensuring the actual output matches the amount you calculated when installing the array in the first place. It’s also a good idea to find out about any damage or wear and tear on the array and to inquire about how soon you need to make repairs or replacements to essential components.
