"Ryan Costello and son , did a terrific job excavating Hugh rocks buried in our backyard. Then transforming them into designing flower beds and refurbishment of a retaining wall. Leveling the surrounding area and reading the ground for numerous mid to large trees to be planted. When job was completed, they did a great clean up and within the promised time frame."

"We recently had James come out to help clear an absolute mountain of overgrown blackberries in our yard, and we couldn't be happier with the results! From start to finish, he was so kind, approachable, and an absolute pleasure to work with. His pricing was incredibly fair and transparent, and he didn't just meet our expectations—he went completely above and beyond with the quality of his work, turning a massive headache of a project into a clean, manageable space. We feel so lucky to have found him. We will definitely be reaching back out to him for future projects and are already recommending him to all our friends and family. If you need excavation or yard work done, James is your guy!!"

"Extremely professional, clean, and skilled. Got the job done far faster than I could?ve imagined. Graded out a building slab, trenched out irrigation and installed and prepped sidewalk. I originally imagined it would take 3 weeks he did it in 1 with superior quality."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

In the short term, excavating corrects drainage problems before freezing temperatures cause severe foundation cracking. Completing this work resolves active grading violations and avoids peak summer contractor delays. Long-term benefits include extending the lifespan of your underground utilities and protecting your foundation from unpredictable volcanic soil shifts. Well-planned groundwork also prepares your Bend property for future additions or structural upgrades.

Helpful?

Address failing drainage and foundation issues immediately to prevent severe frost heave during harsh Bend winters. Delaying these vital repairs worsens damage and accelerates structural failure in unstable volcanic soils. Schedule non-urgent excavating during the fall and winter off-season to avoid spring and summer permit delays. Always coordinate with your local irrigation district to ensure work aligns with strict off-season timelines.

Helpful?

After excavating, you must monitor the refilled areas for dangerous settling. Highly compressible pumice soils throughout OR require periodic re-compaction over the first few years to prevent low spots and surface hazards. Maintain erosion barriers and re-vegetate disturbed soil to stop wind erosion and spring runoff washout. Inspect your drainage systems and retaining walls every spring to repair any winter frost damage.

Helpful?

Your property's layout and natural features dictate the complexity of excavating. Sloped lots in Bend require shoring and additional grading permits to prevent dangerous soil movement. Hardened volcanic basalt and pumice soil demand specialized equipment for safe digging. You must contact the state utility notification center before digging to locate dense utility lines and historic irrigation canals safely.

Helpful?

Proper excavating significantly boosts your property value and long-term marketability. Correcting drainage issues and foundation concerns removes major buyer objections in the highly competitive Bend real estate market. Upgrading from a septic system to city sewer creates immediate, tangible value. Creating level, usable outdoor space and securing proper permits for your groundwork gives buyers confidence and increases your home's overall appeal.
