"A crew from Groundworks installed eight floor supports and encapsulated our crawl space last week. Jorge, Isaac, Kenny, Zacch, and Anthony did a great job! They worked very long hours to complete our project in a timely fashion and were great to interact with. They identified several plumbing and air duct problems and brought them to my attention. Jorge, the team leader, was great about communicating with me and keeping me well informed. The after job clean-up was very thorough. Jorge has been available by phone for my questions even after they have moved on to another job. These guys are very deserving of five stars. Also, I want to give a shout out to Anthony who did our inspection/estimate. He was very thorough and patient and made everything understandable. Another five-star guy!"

"Joey was our salesman and he was very thorough and explained the whole process to us. We picked out all of our flooring, paint colors, fixtures, shower enclosure colors/patterns, type of glass for the doors etc from an extensive set of samples he brought with him, which was very helpful. Install day came exactly as scheduled by Randell and our installer Taylor and plumber Clay showed up to get started. Our house is 72 years old, so they had a few issues to deal with and overcame every little thing that needed to be done with complete competence. Our 2 bathrooms both turned out SO pretty and we couldn't be happier with the work that was done. Taylor is very detail oriented and a very hard worker. He even showed up to work during the snow that practically crippled the city. I was very impressed with his work ethic. He is very pleasant and polite and I kinda miss the guy now that he's gone. I'd absolutely hire them again if I renovate any other bathrooms."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

If you can’t unscrew your bathtub drain, it could be due to stripped post threads. The best way to handle this is to pull the stopper up while turning it. Eventually, you should see a screw set that you can loosen with a flathead screwdriver to remove the bathtub drain.

Yes, most bathrooms can be converted into a wet room, but the process often involves extensive renovations. Key requirements include having proper plumbing and the ability to slope the floor slightly for drainage. The conversion process typically requires removing the existing floors to install drainage, replacing drywall with waterproofed cement backer board, waterproofing the walls, and installing new fixtures to create an open, curbless shower space. A skilled home renovation professional can evaluate your bathroom to determine if it's a suitable candidate. It's also worth considering resale value; if you only have one bathroom, converting it to a wet room might not be ideal as many homebuyers prefer to have at least one bathtub.

If you notice your main water shut-off valve is leaking, try tightening the valve slightly to see if it stops the leak. If the leak persists or worsens, it’s best to contact a licensed plumber to assess and repair the valve. Using too much force or attempting a DIY repair can further damage the valve.

If you don’t want to remove the sink stopper, pour ½ cup of baking soda and 2 cups of boiling water down the drain. Start by pouring 1 cup of boiling water, then the baking soda, followed by the remaining cup of boiling water. Use caution as boiling water can damage PVC or other plastic piping. Using a scrub brush or slightly abrasive sponge, clean the top of the stopper, and run the faucet to ensure the drain is clear and the stopper is clean.

Yes, polybutylene pipes absolutely need to be replaced. These pipes do not last long and pose major threats of leaks and bursts because they cannot withstand the elements found in municipal water, such as chlorine and fluoride. If your home still has any polybutylene pipes, hire a plumber right away to replace them with a better, more durable type of pipe.
