Hold off on walking across your freshly stained deck for at least 24 to 48 hours and even longer before setting down furniture or planters. Drying time can stretch depending on humidity and temperature, so give it extra time when in doubt. Generally, these steps are included in exterior house painting:

Avoid using pressure washers on high, as they can damage the wood. Applying a deck sealant can protect the wood from UV and water damage, and adding shade can also reduce sunlight damage.
