Customers say: Terrific value

"Doug's team was timely and very knowledgeable. He and his team kept me updated every step they took. Our fireplace turned out better than we hoped. He converted our fireplace into a gas log fireplace, repaired our chimney, and also gave us a remote. His and his team's customer service is excellent. Thank you!"

He gave me the price for the job, stated the day and time when he would be there, communicated with me the day of on his arrival time, and started to work right when he arrived. "Doug called within minutes of me requesting a professional. He said he could be there the next morning. Doug call that morning to inform me he was running about 2 hours behind. I appreciated the call. The tech cleaned the fireplace, polite, cleaned the area of his work and fast. Explained the minor problem and showed me how to operate the fireplace. Tech was there about 15 mins. This company but was a bit high in cost that's why I put 4 stars, but overall I would recommend this company."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

For fireplaces that need ventilation, a pipe system can do the trick and send dangerous byproducts out of your house. The actual pipe installation will depend on the type of fireplace because pipe systems are unique to specific fireplace types. For example, the twin wall pipe for a balanced flue fireplace can only be used for that type of fireplace.

Shiplap can be safe for a gas fireplace, but you should consult with a fireplace installation pro before proceeding. You need to make sure your project meets building and safety codes since shiplap is made from flammable wood. You may need to install another non-combustible material, like stone or brick, around the fireplace for a certain amount of space before you can add shiplap.

Costs depend on appliance age, issue complexity, part availability, and labor rates.

The best location for a wood stove depends on your home's layout and venting options. For optimal heat distribution, a central location on the ground floor, such as the living room, is often recommended. If you have an existing, functional chimney, installing the stove there can simplify the venting process. Alternatively, placing the stove near an outside wall can make it easier to route a new chimney through the roof. For safety, ensure no combustible materials are near the stove. Building codes typically require 20 to 36 inches of clearance between the stove and any side walls.

Fireplaces can theoretically help you save on heating bills if you lower the temperature throughout the rest of your home and heat only a single room that you occupy using the fireplace. However, in most cases, homeowners won’t save any money on heating bills. Gas and electric fireplace inserts could actually lead to a spike in your respective energy bills if you use them frequently, and if you don’t keep up with chimney maintenance and repairs, your traditional masonry fireplace could actually be a source of heat loss in the winter.
