"Chris and his team were an absolute god send! We had waited 4 weeks for a different fabricator to install our countertops. The install day came, and the other company tried to put a seam over the dishwasher. Needless to say, we cancelled. Angie's had Chris as a contractor, so we took a chance. Chris was so extremely responsive. He let us know where to go to pick out our countertops, the same day we called. He received the countertop and had it installed in our home within a few days! I am so happy we found him. Not only was he responsive him and his team exceeded our expectations. I am so happy with his work we are having him come back to install our backsplash. I will sing his praises to anyone looking to have countertops fabricated and installed."

"Did a great job leveling and filling seams on my existing countertops. Also took care of re-caulking the under mount sink and along the counter/backsplash."

"Mark and his crew did a great job on our granite countertops. The best thing about our experience with All American Stoneworks was the value and customer service. We reached out to multiple companies and Mark gave us the best quote, with many options to choose from. All in all, we love our new countertops and would recommend Mark and his crew to anyone. Five Stars!"

"Great team! Cheri and her husband did a wonderful job. They listened to what I wanted, asked a lot of questions to make sure they understood what my concerns, and design I wanted. Will use them again when I build my home. Can't go wrong with this team... I had all my countertops epoxied."

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

Yes, a 12-inch countertop overhang will need support to keep it stable. The exact type of support depends on your countertop thickness and material. Thicker, heavier countertops need extra support, like a corbel or a post, to keep them from sagging or toppling over.

The lifespan of painted countertops depends on the products used and how well they are maintained. Generally, they can last for a couple of years before needing a fresh coat. To maximize their longevity, it is vital to apply a durable sealer, such as a resin or water-based acrylic topcoat, over the paint. After applying the sealer, allow it to cure for the full recommended time, which can range from seven to ten days, to ensure a fully protected surface.

You don’t need a cutting board. In fact, cutting is the original purpose of butcher block countertops. That said, wood is porous and can harbor germs. You’ll need to clean your countertop thoroughly after use. Knives can also scratch the surface. This adds to the patina of the wood, but not everyone likes the look—in which case, you may want to use a cutting board.

Yes, you can install a farmhouse sink on an existing countertop—but there are some caveats. You’ll need to precisely measure. It’s best to choose a sink that’s the same dimensions as your existing sink, since your contractor won’t have to cut the countertop. Otherwise, pay close attention to the depth of your counter (the front to back measurement). You don’t want to install something that’s so big it sticks out beyond your countertop and cabinetry.

You can save some money on countertops by going the DIY route, though it can be risky. Laminate is attractive for cost-conscious homeowners, as it can mimic natural materials like granite and wood. It’s also easy to install. Other inexpensive options include ceramic tile, porcelain tile, and butcher block. For serious savings, skip a full replacement and refinish the pre-existing countertop.
