"Blake did a wonderful job designing the landscape. The selection of plants is absolutely what I wanted for a butterfly garden to bring out color, texture, and balance throughout the garden. The new paver sidewalk adds such charm to the house, creating a perfect path that ties the whole design together. The lighting system is another highlight—it beautifully illuminates the walkway and plants at night, giving our home a warm and inviting glow. I’m also impressed with the sprinkler system installation that comes with a smart app connected to the weather forecast; more importantly it is easy to use, efficient, and ensures that everything stays healthy without any hassle. We had some hiccups along the way between the actual design Blake created, which was not coming to fruition by his workers, but Blake made all the corrections to make it right in the end. I recommend this landscaping company to anyone looking for a great design."

"Guerrero Landscaping did a very nice job on our multi-level retaining wall. They were fast, efficient, and very conscientious throughout the project. Their charges for the project were right in line with others who bid the work. Would hire them again."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

A half inch above ground level is ideal for metal edging. This provides enough depth for the edging to hold in place and enough height to keep in most landscaping materials (like mulch or gravel). If you install edging too high off the ground, it will stand out from your landscaping and pose a tripping risk. If you install it too low, your ground cover won’t stay in place.

Other projects that you can do at the same time as your trellis include painting the deck , installing a pergola, or adding mulch to your garden beds.

If you want to take your tree-planting hobby beyond your outdoor space, here are a few great ways to do it:

  • Encourage your neighbors to participate in the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA program, which has a four-step framework that helps communities grow and maintain their own tree cover.

  • Support businesses that plant trees.

  • Lobby your local government to plant more trees around your community.

  • Donate to a tree-planting charity.

Yes, you can hydroseed with a garden hose, but you’ll need a tank or other large vessel for mixing the slurry, then a pump to send the slurry through the hose for spraying. Making your own hydroseeding unit can work, but it’s not usually worth the effort and supplies unless you already have them.

The truth is, there really is no such thing as a 100% deer-proof plant. Deer will decimate even the prickliest flora if they’re hungry enough. However, there are plenty of beautiful plants that deer don’t necessarily enjoy. These include thistles, wisteria vines, sword ferns, and beautyberries.

Deer are herbivores, and they love vegetable gardens as much as Peter Rabbit. If you don’t want to fence in your entire property, consider creating an attractive raised-bed veggie garden with mesh fencing around it to keep out deer and other critters.
