"After having 2 different vendors look at the roof and performed repairs, the roof still leaked. That's when I called Justin at Ridgid, he had done some HVAC work for me before. After doing the inspection of the roof, Justin and his team gave me detailed analysis of what was going on and what my options were. While the best option would be to replace the whole roof. Justin and his team were honest about the cost and offered to fix the issue first and see if held up. If it worked I could save some money. So they went ahead and fixed the roof. And voila had no issues after that. They were able to resolve the issue at a fraction of the cost for me. Highly recommend, straight forward and honest."

"Iq was wonderful to work with! He’s extremely knowledgeable in the roofing industry. He helped communicate with the insurance company and the adjuster to make sure we were being covered properly. He kept us informed along the way and even found us a better deal on shingles that are better quality than what the insurance company would pay for. He also put in new gutters with the roof that gave our home an entirely new better look! I would highly recommend IQ Roofing!"

"I started with another company, but they never answered my calls. So, I called RC Roofing and they not only answered my calls, they came out to the house the same day and repaired the roof within two days! Also, Ryan, who repaired our roof, specializes in small repairs. He is very knowledgeable and friendly."

"We decided to get our roof replaced by 1907 Roofing and couldn't be happier! Our previous roof was about 12 years old and there was an issue with a leak making its way into the interior of our home. The care and detail they put into doing a thorough inspection was truly incredible! When we called other roofing companies we were surprised how most of them didn't even take the time to inspect our roof. 1907 put in the extra time to provide helpful insight to what was really going on and what the next steps should be. They helped us get through the insurance claim process with ease and no stress! Great company! We will definitely recommend 1907 Roofing to all of our friends and family members who need help with their roofing project!"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

The principal, common, and auxiliary rafters are the most frequently used types of rafters. Principal rafters are large and typically appear toward the edges of the roof. Common rafters are smaller than principal rafters. Some people may use a mix of common and principal rafters. The auxiliary rafter is not common, but it provides extra reinforcement for a principal rafter on a large building.

No, you can’t use your home’s square footage. You have to calculate your roof’s square footage, and then you may have to convert your square footage measurement to correspond with how the roofing material is measured. For instance, some roofing is sold in “squares,” which equals the total square footage of the roof divided by 100. Shingles are sold in bundles that may not correspond to the number of squares you need. Metal roofing is sold as sheets, so determine the amount of square feet each panel will cover and then divide the total square footage by the coverage area.

The ridge is the horizontal line where two sloping roof sections meet at the top, forming the highest point of the roof. A hip, on the other hand, is the external angle formed where two roof sections meet and slope downward toward the walls, typically at a lower angle than the ridge. The ridge runs horizontally along the peak and the hip runs diagonally from the peak to the roof's edges.

Look for certified local roofing contractors with plenty of experience working with cedar. There are also several important roofing questions to ask before choosing a roofer, including whether they are licensed, bonded, and insured. Once you’ve rounded up a few good candidates, compare estimates and hire whoever gives you the best bang for your buck.

EPDM roofing is a single-ply roofing material made of rubber, and a professional will install it in a single sheet and seal the seams. Built-up roofing (BUR) consists of multiple layers made from asphalt, adhesives, and roofing felt. A professional will construct the layers of BUR on-site. EPDM is easier to repair and has better resistance to extreme temperatures, while BUR is more fire-resistant and affordable.
