"After having 2 different vendors look at the roof and performed repairs, the roof still leaked. That's when I called Justin at Ridgid, he had done some HVAC work for me before. After doing the inspection of the roof, Justin and his team gave me detailed analysis of what was going on and what my options were. While the best option would be to replace the whole roof. Justin and his team were honest about the cost and offered to fix the issue first and see if held up. If it worked I could save some money. So they went ahead and fixed the roof. And voila had no issues after that. They were able to resolve the issue at a fraction of the cost for me. Highly recommend, straight forward and honest."

"Lynn and her team always impress me. They have high attention to detail and make sure to leave a clean worksite. She is your ally when the insurance companies try to short your estimate. Black Thunder has replaced roofs for me, my sister, my parents and my grandparents. Highly recommended."

"We decided to get our roof replaced by 1907 Roofing and couldn't be happier! Our previous roof was about 12 years old and there was an issue with a leak making its way into the interior of our home. The care and detail they put into doing a thorough inspection was truly incredible! When we called other roofing companies we were surprised how most of them didn't even take the time to inspect our roof. 1907 put in the extra time to provide helpful insight to what was really going on and what the next steps should be. They helped us get through the insurance claim process with ease and no stress! Great company! We will definitely recommend 1907 Roofing to all of our friends and family members who need help with their roofing project!"

"Process, product, and workmanship were exceptional! Great company to work with. This was a seamless process from start to finish. The owner was my POC, always punctual, on site making sure all my needs were taken care of, the job was done correctly, and to my satisfaction. Who does that any more? Once we started the process, everything went fast from there. The roofing team was in and out in no time, clean up was excellent, like no-one had ever been there. Awesome people and company to work with. My next roof will be done by Sooner Commercial Roofing. Yours should be too!"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Hail is unlikely to damage a tar and gravel roof because the hailstones will hit the protective gravel rather than your delicate roof membrane. A tar and gravel roof is the most resilient flat roof option, which means it’s the best one for areas that see hail, fallen tree debris, and blown debris from intense winds.

Roofing material costs vary depending on the type of material you choose and whether you install it yourself or hire a roofer. Shingles are the most affordable option and cost between $70 and $400 per square, metal roofing is between $100 and $1,500 per square, and concrete tile is between $300 and $1,000 per square.

Asphalt shingles have varying thicknesses across the length, so failing to stagger shingles from one row to the next will leave you with bulges and bumps if the thicker sections stack on top of each other. Not only is this unappealing, but it increases the risk of water intrusion. Stagger each new row by 6 inches to avoid this issue.

Chimney caps have a solid top but perforated sides so smoke can exit safely. If rain or snow falls downward, chimney caps can protect the chimney’s interior. Just note that if rain or snow blows in sideways, there’s a higher likelihood it will enter the chimney—but it's not often a cause for concern as long as you have a cap.

The number of roof vents necessary for a 2,000-square-foot house depends on several factors. The calculation depends on the net free area within the attic and whether your municipality requires a 1/150 or a 1/300 ratio of venting square feet to attic square feet. If you install vents with a square-foot opening of one, you'll need either 14 or seven exhaust vents and an equal square-foot amount of intake vents.
