Most of the fence was done very well but one of the posts shifted while the concrete was drying so the top has over a 1” tilt to it. When I brought it up, I was told there was nothing they could do about it which means they didn’t want to reset a new post for a cosmetic issue but now the first thing I see every day is a listing post.

For the gate, he only had 2 latches, I opted for the more expense one which ended up being a latch that looked like it should be on a barn door and not a residential gate. So I had to replace it but I take partial responsibility as I approved it without seeing it.

The fence was put along a garden bed and was told that wouldn’t be a problem but a number of the plants where flatted and trampled on and had to be pulled out.

"Company was responsive to my phone calls.   Gave me a detailed written estimate.  I had already been to their website and had learned quite a bit about fencing.  I had received a total of five quotes and this company was the only one to point out that a permit was needed in my city.  Other contractors, when asked about permits, had lied and said they weren't necessary.  That was a black mark against them.

The crew came out as scheduled on a Thursday morning and demolished the existing fence and dug post holes for the new fence.  They installed a temporary plastic fence and left.   A truck delivered materials around 11 am and the crew came back that afternoon and set the posts in cement.  They were back at 7:30 on Friday and began to assemble the fence.  It was made of Western Red Cedar with cedar rails.  It was finished with a cedar top cap and a pressure treated rotboard along the bottom.

After a week, I noticed that one of the boards had split vertically, and they came out and replaced the board. The fence looks good and passed it's permit inspection!

"Too expensive. I hired another fence provider to do the same job for about 1/2 the price. Prime Fencing quoted me a turnkey price of $1500 to install an iron railing around a small 5'x6' front porch, and hand railings down both sides of four steps. I wound up hiring another contractor who did the same work for a turnkey price of $775. I'm glad I shopped around for another quote.

Update:
Although I did not use Prime Fencing for the small job I needed done, I appreciate the time they spent answering my Angies List comments. The next time I need any fencing, I will again call Prime Fencing for a quote. I don't always use the least expensive provider, but on that one house I really needed to cut costs. Thank you Prime Fencing, and I'm sure we will be doing business in the future! The vast majority of companies do not take the time to answer a review if they did not get the job. These folks are true pros. Give them a call for a quote!"

Due to all the recent storms all fence people are really busy.  Took a couple times to actually meet up and talk about my fence repairs.

He was late on the Sat. morning we were to meet.  After waiting over an hour I called him; said he was held up on Alameda and would be over in about 20 min.  He was.

Explained my fence needs. He seemed receptive.  I did not need any new fence, only two new steel posts installed (the wooded ones had broken) and about 7 rot boards (rail ties in this case) repositioned or replaced under my fence as they had floated into neighbor's yard and some had soaked too long in the water.

Also asked for advice on some yard flooding issues I have--he had some good ideas.

About a week later I received the estimate for the minor fence repairs.  The price was HUGE for not replacing any fence; I called my handyman to see what he thought (he recommended this company to me) and he suggested I call another one for an another estimate.  I did but it has been almost two weeks since Marshall Fence in Moore was out to give an estimate and I still have not heard anything.

Manual (A/M Fence) was professional, friendly and very knowledgeable.  I just don't believe he were interested in my little fence repair and I am beginning to think that Marshall Fence feels the same (Tony was friendly, professional and knowledgeable also) but cannot seem to get an estimate and I have called once to ask about it-was told estimator had been out and I will get it today (the day I called) -its been 6 days later and no estimate yet but doesn't matter now anyway.

I called a realtor friend of mine to see if she knew of a handyman or company they were recommending.  She gave me Jeff Gossett and his number.  He came out two days later and gave me an ESTIMATE OF $315 -- SOLD and the work was great.  Will be using Jeff for the handyman stuff  as well as Ted of Squared away handyman--two great handymen who charge reasonable prices.

Fencing questions, answered by experts

The bottom strand should sit between 12 to 15 inches from the ground. If you have a problem with small critters, you can aim for 8 inches. Three-strand fences should be 16 to 19 inches apart, four-strand fences should be 10 to 12 inches apart, and five-strand fences should be 8 and 10 inches apart.

Staining a fence is less expensive than painting a fence due to the cost of materials and the longevity of the finish. Stain not only lasts longer than paint without chipping or peeling, but you also won’t have to put in the extra time and cost to prime the surface first.

Silt fences are very effective when installed correctly and used in proper locations. However, there are places where they don’t work as well. This includes property with a concentrated water flow, where runoff could pool or cause a flooding hazard. You’ll also want to use caution when installing in areas susceptible to landslides. Your contractor will follow state guidelines and know when an alternate solution is more effective.

The most common hog wire gauge for a fence is 12.5. However, you can choose from a few gauges based on your needs. While 12.5 is a reliable gauge for penning in large, strong animals, 9 gauge is a better option of you have large animals that are easily spooked, such as horses. For smaller animals, like dogs or pigs, you can use a 16 gauge hog wire.

The average cost to install a fence is between $1,800 and $4,500. However, the price can vary significantly based on several factors. For a small DIY project, costs could be as low as $450, while fencing a large property like a 5-acre yard can exceed $43,000. Key factors that influence the total cost include the fence's size and height, the material used, the complexity of the design, site preparation needs, and any additional features like gates. The cost of raw materials, manufacturing, and custom fabrication can also impact the final price.
