"I had my Living and Dining Room Floors plus stairs, landing and upstairs hallway done. Tim was very professional and did a beautiful job refinishing the floors in my 97-year-old home. I would recommend him highly."

"After 7 years my stockade fence was in poor shape and 60 mph done me in. Found MB Carpentry,LL on Homeadvisor and read the reviews. Called and the same day had a quote and appointment time-frame . MB was prompt, reliable, had a great crew and very efficient in their work. And also very reasonable with all the work removing and replacing my old fence. They do it the right way. Cleaned up with no complaints and I am looking forward to having more work for them."

Floor Sanding questions, answered by experts

With proper training and experience, reading blueprints is fairly straightforward and not very difficult. If you don’t have the necessary knowledge to interpret the symbols, abbreviations, and other notations used, blueprints may not make sense. Learning to read blueprints can help you understand the construction process and keep you more involved and informed when you’re building a house.

A boundary survey measures the boundary lines of the property, only the length of each property line and their locations. A land survey includes a more in-depth measurement of the property, including the heights and depths of the terrain measured by a topographic survey. A boundary survey is typically the most cost-effective method for marking and measuring property lines.

A few different types of land surveys can help determine certain features and boundaries of your property. These include:

  • Boundary surveys describe the actual borders of a property. These are generally required when trying to get construction permits issued.

  • Location surveys provide much of the same information as a boundary survey but also include in-depth information about any improvements made to your property.

  • Mortgage location surveys are usually required by lenders and title companies before financing or offering an insurance policy.

  • Site-planning surveys are done before applying for building permits and can be issued before any major home improvements.

  • Topographic surveys provide a formal map of land elevations. It can also describe the location and size of natural features and any land improvements.

Prior to excavation, you should prepare the dig site and call 311 before you sign anything.

To get your site ready for excavation, you should move anything in the area that isn’t affixed to the land. You can save money on the excavation by removing hardscaping, including walkways, decks, concrete patios, and paver patios.

Before you carry out any digging, you should call 311 to confirm that there are no utility lines running through your excavation site. Skipping this step could lead to severe injury and property damage if your excavator hits a water, sewage, or gas line.

ALTA/ACSM surveys are the most comprehensive type of land survey and, as such, tend to be the most expensive. These surveys have standardized guidelines and reports and are used in many kinds of real estate transactions to ensure consistent and accurate information is available for properties.
