"Had Betts Structural Engineering come and look at the foundation of a house we were in contract on. Josh came out and was professional and informative. He informed us the foundation was failing and explained what needed to be done. He throughly explained everything and told us how we could do it ourselves for much cheaper than a contractor could do it. In the end he saved us from a long and expensive process if we proceeded with the house."

"Basement Solutions is my "go to" for foundation, basement, and water intrusion. In almost 30 years of selling houses I've learned that the world of basement contractors in one fraught with lies, overcharging, and cheating the public. One professional basement contractor admitted to me that the industry thrived on the consumer not knowing a lot obout basements. ("More mystery...More margin" i.e., the less they know the more we can charge.") How refreshing to have Buckeye Basements come to a home and give honest advice at a fair cost. Thank you for serving my clients well!"

"STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. They took my 1st half deposit and then vanished. I have called multiple times. Spoke with someone once and they promised a call back. Never did. Emailed and no response. This was over 4 months ago. Nothing. They stole my money. Sales guy was John Mullikin. Here's their class-act response by chat. The best response I've had yet. "Conversation closed by Erika"."

Hughes Construction Company was started in 2004 by Tyler Hughes, the current owner and operator of the company. Tyler got his start like most people in the industry, as a laborer. He was able to pick up skills from various co-workers along the way and eventually enabled him to start Hughes Construction Company. Hughes Construction Company is a team of dedicated professionals that want you to get the best value out of your next project. We are a licensed contractor with the City of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky which means we are bonded, insured, and comply with all city standards and specifications. Built on honesty and integrity, we pride ourselves on being a locally owned and family operated business, and will continue to service the Greater Cincinnati area for many years to come. Follow the link below, fill out your contact information and we will respond to your request within 48 hours.

"I had a very frustrating experience with this company. I had foundation issues in my home I bought this past January, so I reached out to Hughes Construction to see about them working on my project for me. After initial contact they said they required a structural engineer to draw out plans prior to beginning work. So they recommended Cole Engineering. I used Cole engineering and was charged $2,500 for the plans to repair the foundation. Once I had the plans, emailed them to Hughes Construction, and tried coordinating follow on construction. Tami Ludwig reached out and said they weren’t able to assist me. I’m out $2,500 and was able to help out their friends engineering company with business while Hughes left me high and dry. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!"

"While working on purchasing a home, I needed a quick and thorough review of some items of concern before closing on the house. Criterium's engineers and representatives were responsive, professional, and thorough. They took time to explain things in terms I could understand and they went above and beyond to respond on short notice."

"March 2020 I hired Mike Montgomery of BPG to inspect cracks in my basement wall and make recommendations of how to fix it. The inspection and report went fine. Mike found another wall that needed to be attached to the ceiling joist. He offered to do a design for $420. I accepted with the thought that the design would be representative in value to what I was paying. Mike provided a stock drawing where he changed three dimensions based on calculations that he made. This work probably took him about 15 minutes to complete. I felt the design was worth no more than $100. Mike and BPG disagreed with me and thought that the design was worth the $420. Mike did take the time to discuss this with me. The BPG claims manager did not take the time to call me, but sent me an email instead. Since I agreed to pay this amount up front, I went ahead and paid the bill. Be wary before asking them to provide you with a design, although the inspection and report were very good. June 2020 Even though I wrote a negative review, Mike answered addition questions that I had on multiple occasions as I fully exposed the walls and learned the extent of the damage. The fee to perform the inspection and write the report was well worth the money. Mike knows what he is doing and is very professional. He even recommended the contractor who I found to be the lowest cost and most knowledgeable."

United Structural Systems is a family-owned business specializing in foundation repair, wall realignment, and waterproofing systems. "This one-star rating is generous! We are seven weeks into a four-day job at our house! The have been back three times to finish the job and it is still not done. My back yard is a mud pit! I have been informed by the "office" that it will take two more weeks before I can be put on the schedule for a crew to come back. The crew is working from their Lancaster office, and the managers won't return phone calls and are hiding behind the receptionist. I work just a few miles from their Lexington office, so I decided to pop in and talk to a different person only to find out that there is no staff in this office. The website for the Lexington office has a picture of the building and posted hours of 9 am to 6 pm, but it is just a building with mailboxes and a few shared meeting rooms used by several companies. Customer service is absolutely horrible. Think twice before hiring USS!"

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

Costs depend on unit complexity, labor, wall mounting needs, and additional accessories like floating shelves.

It depends on the bank and the extent of the issue. Some banks will lend against homes with minor foundation damage, but most won’t if the issue is structural since the home acts as collateral for the mortgage. Banks that offer renovation loans might still finance a home with structural problems. More minor issues like settling cracks and intermittent problems with humidity are unlikely to stop a bank from financing.

If you intend to do the majority of the work yourself, you can pay to hire an architect or a structural engineer to ensure your home remains structurally sound. They can help with the planning to make sure everything is up to code and safe for your family. On the other hand, if you’re not sure your home will be completely safe when you’ve completed the project, let a pro do the job.

Most load-bearing walls are exterior, though they can also be interior.

Costs depend on furniture type, size, complexity, and whether additional modifications are needed.
