"The installation team arrived promptly at 9am to begin work.  The installation team had the old window out and surface prepared within a the first half hour.  When the second truck arrived with the glass block panels the group installed the window.  There was a bit of a challenge with the vertical angle of the wall and one of the panels fell out on to soft dirt while being shimmed into place.  These guys are excellent bricklayers, and not only can you not tell where the vertical joints are between the panels, you cannot tell where they had to reset the rows as well.  Long story short, they did a terrific job, the window looks like one unit and the side of the garage looks great.  The total time for the job, arrival to departure was 2 hours.  The installation crew was professional and cleaned up the area leaving nothing behind.  The Ice pattern allows for the security and privacy we wanted AND allows a significant amount of daylight into the garage.  I will use Global Glass Block on my next glass block project.

"I have had ice dams, with water leaking into my study, during two of the last three winters.  In an attempt to solve the problem initially, I hired a roofing company to install an ice shield underneath the slates and repair any damaged slates.  That did not help, as a second ice dam occurred two years later.  So, I am now trying to approach the problem through insulation.  I obtained four estimates from four insulation companies, and each company recommended a COMPLETELY different fix for prices varying from $1800 - $5000.  Totally confused and lost,  I re-interviewed the companies and finally settled on Northcoast Energy Masters because Ray, who did the estimate, was able to answer my questions most completely and made the most sense of the four insulation experts. 

The job went smoothly and quickly, with a careful and conscientous team who cleaned up after themselves.  Through this process, I have learned that preventing ice dams involves a lot of guesswork, and is sometimes not even possible with insulation.  Occasionally, a heating cable on the roof (which I would like to avoid) is the only remedy.  While Ray believes he has solved my problem, he acknowledges that we will not truly know that until a few winters have passed without ice dams.  He promises to continue working with me should more ice dams occur, including giving me a decent price for a heating cable, should that become necesssary.  This is why I rate the quality of this job "NA" because I do not yet know whether the insulation will prevent ice dams. 

On the positive side, as the insulation was being blown into the attic, I noticed the temperature of my house increasing, and I now keep my thermostat at 66, rather than 67.  So the new insulation is clearly preventing some heat from escaping through my roof."
